HB 1237 Sunday hunting

Post by Hocktl »

In years past this has always been shot down by opposition in committee. Believe it or not the Farm Bureau is the biggest opponent of Sunday Hunting. They actively lobby to oppose any effort to have any additional Sunday hunting in VA. You see there is actually Sunday hunting in VA but only for a select few. Anyway today was historic as it got out of committee and is going to the house.

What the hell does the Farm Bureau care about Sunday hunting or not? Care to explain?

Well Rick, I wish I could explain. For 5 straight years there have been bills introduced to kill the ban and for 5 straight years the Farm Bureau has been in Richmond. All I can say is I'm sure it has something to do with follow the money but here is lots to read to try and understand their position.

Even a Video:

Believe it or not these are the other big opponents.

There is certain hound hunting aloud on Sundays one of which is fox hunting. This group has opposed Sunday hunting all along. Not saying I know why but I'm told that because they knew they would never get hound hunting for deer on Sundays. The bill now states dog hunting for deer would not be aloud on Sunday. I guess they feel if they can't, no one can and they have a big voice in Richmond. They got some big donators as well therefore there is some deep pockets.

I can't say I understand it. They go to court for kids praying in school but we have to give a day of rest to the deer on Sunday. I say if we have to give them a day lets give em Tuesday.

Geez, I just want to bow hunt on private property on Sundays.

I guess Sunday should be designated as outdoor range shooting day year-round until this thing passes.

I sit home wishing I could hunt on one of my two days off each week and in the distance I hear hundreds of round being fired at the Bull Run Public Shooting Center. I sure hope this stupid law's days are numbers...

woot woot....there is no reason this should still be law. It was maybe ok when everyone went to church twice on Sunday and the beer isle was cordoned off Sat night at 12am. But we no longer live in the those times, and even then, why is there a law? If you feel it is wrong to hunt on Sunday...don't hunt on Sunday!

I doubt that Terry will pass it though. He would shrivel up and die before he would pass a pro gun anything.

National Rifle Association
Virginia: Senate Bill 154, the Senate companion to House Bill 1237, passed by a 9-4 vote today in the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee, putting Virginia hunters one step closer to having the opportunity to hunt on Sundays on private land. SB 154 repeals the outdated ban on Sunday hunting on private lands with written permission from the owner - while still prohibiting hunting within 200 yards of a house of worship, the hunting of deer with dogs and the hunting of bear.

Now waiting for the full Senate to vote

I read from a senator's letter that McAuliffe spoke in favor of the bill, surprisingly

TM wants to point at this and say "See, I support the Second Amendment" as he is trying to turn VA into CA.
