Post by Reverenddel »

If you're making salsa, and you use ghost peppers, please make sure you REALLY freakin' wash your hands before you go pee...

Even if you SCRUBBED THEM WITH DAWN...DOUBLE SCRUB THEM!

Thank you (ow). :bangin:

Not much else to say here, so I'll let Bob Seger do the talking.

Amen to that, this is why I use rubber gloves when cutting hot peppers. I don't care how tough you think you are that pain just isn't right!

Ohhhh.....ouchie! I once cut up about 30 cloves of garlic and rubbed them in olive oil (roasting) I did not realize that I had scratched my face while chopping......I found out 15 minutes later as my skin was on fire!

Kinetic, I don't think I'm allowed to dip my junk in the chunky monkey because I was careless... I think The Woman would be highly irritated.

My last wife found that out is also true if you pull out an unrecognized vine off of the front steps. Especially in poison ivy country.

Capsaicin is an alkaloid; thats why milk (lactic acid+the protein casein) helps with it. Try scrubbing your hands with a freshly cut lemon or lime to help with neutralizing the acid.

Washing with water just spreads it around.

Kreutz! Yer a life saver! Didn't even think about using Lime juice (which is also in my salsa) to wash the acid off! Good times!

Oh! Salsa recipe!

6 Roma tomatoes, cut up with vine end removed.
1/2 a white onion
1 to 1 1/2 cup of cilantro
half a lime squeezed
2 ghost peppers, chopped with seeds removed (tricky, but keeps the flavor)
Salt

Blend up the tomatoes with a hand blender, diced the onion, dice the cilantro, put those in and hit it twice with the hand blender, mix in the lime juice, and then the chopped ghost peppers, hit it twice with the hand blender, salt to taste, viola! yer done!

I have a coworker that grows ghosts and uses them often in cooking as well as drying them and grinding them up for his pepper mill. He always wears the vinyl food service gloves while he's messing with them now.
