Applied for CHP Today
I finally did it! Took my DD214 and drivers license, went to Hampton City Clerk of Court (guess that's what they call it) filled out the form, paid my $40 and now I wait. I'll come back and post when i hear anything or actually get it. The clerk said within 45 business days which i figure as Feb 7th.
I don't even have the gun yet but figured the permit is good for 5 yrs so I might as well get it now before they start tacking on more hoops to jump through. Besides, My birthday is in March so if I get my CHP in Feb, it will be a great excuse to get my carry weapon of choice and holster.

Good for you! Keep track of the time they take. They may try to play games. Here is the information aboit de facto permits: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504 ... 8.2-308.05
It's a great thing to get even if you won't carry for a while.

And if Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell!

Usually only takes 2 to 3 weeks, though 45 daze is allowed by law. Past that you can actually file a grievance.
Ive had mine since the first year they went to SHALL ISSUE.
I CCW 90% of the time, OC 10%.
Mostly, I do NOT leave home without something.

I was wondering about that, especially after I read Gene's link. So that should be by Jan. 17th

Is there any training you reccommend in the Hampton Roads Area. I was thinking of taking a class at Bob's Gun Shop in Norfolk.

I'm a retired Marine, I know the basics on safety, shooting and nomenclature. I'd like more of a defensive handgun training, maybe close combat, clearing rooms type of class.

Hands on training is 100% more effective than watching a video. Take up the offer from proshooters or at least somebody who knows what to teach and how to teach it.
I had a SCAR 17 and 16. I also had a bunch of Glocks and a couple H&K pistols. Oh and a DDM4, but I sold everything when our government told me these dangerous tools can actually hurt someone. Apparently they grow legs and go on killing sprees.

If you are going to have a gun for self defense, live-fire training is essential. Reinforce it all you want by watching all the videos you want, and reading, but there is no substitute for real training.
Plus, it's a lot of fun!
