I took the 9mm Range Officer to the range today to give it a workout. I was impressed with how well it shoots. Sub 4-inch groups at 22 yards (this is as far as I could run the target out at the indoor range) came easy. The pistol weighs 41 ounces and shooting a 9mm in this heavy pistol feels almost like shooting a .22 LR.
I do have a couple of mods planned once I've gotten the pistol broken in. First, the thumb safety needs to be replaced. It has a sharp edge on the rear that will bother anyone who uses a high grip with their thumb riding on top of the thumb safety. This is the one aspect of this gun that has disappointed me - easy and cheap enough to fix though. I'll put a thinner front sight blade with a fiber optic on and I'll replace the wood grips with some G-10 VZs having a much more aggressive texture. I'll get the trigger smoothed out and its creep reduced; it's already light enough with almost no over travel. Plus I'll have the gunsmith do a few reliability enhancements. My goal is to keep this gun and its mods below $1100. If I shoot it well enough in matches, I may also add a grip-flush magwell later in the year.
