MuShuGordon - Surry County, NC

Post by MuShuGordon »

Hello there guys. My name is MuShu Gordon. Well, not really. My first name is Aaron in real life, but I like to go by the obvious on the internet. I found this website while browsing through Google for "gun forum," and I thought that it would be a good place to register and say hello. I live in Mount Airy, NC, which is about 15 minutes from Patrick and Carroll Counties.

I turned 21 a little over a month ago. I purchased my first weapon, a Mosin Nagant 91/30 nearly 10 months ago, and have accumulated a total of 4 guns thus far. I think that it lists them on my profile thing but I will list them again here, but in list format.

-1943 Mosin Nagant 91/30. First rifle purchased. Love the thing
-FEG PA63. Bought it sort of on impulse a few months ago. I like its simplicity.
-Savage 17 Mach II rifle with heavy barrel, 3x9x40 BSA Sweet 17 Mach II scope, and bipod.
-Mossberg 100 ATR Marinecote finish, on the scope also.

I had LASIK eye surgery done a little over two weeks ago and I want to pursue a career in the NAVY. I would like to start out by attempting to become a NAVY SEAL and from there either stay with the SEALs (if I make it) or become a CT (Crypto Technologist) (fancy name for a hacker). I am currently in the market for a new weapon and I am having trouble finding one that is good for me.

If there is anything that I forgot, feel free to ask and I will answer as best as I can.

Hi MuShu. Welcome aboard! :welcome:

Navy Seal, eh? That's a tough one. Good luck with it if you venture down that path! If you decide to venture down the Navy path at all, let me know and I'll tell you the things that the recruiter won't! :)

MuShu,
I first want to thank you in advance for your service to our country. :thankyou:

Now, as for becoming a Seal...I was not a Navy Seal however being in the Amphib Navy I had opportunity to have many a conversation with them. Some wisdom they shared with me is as follows: Don't "Attempt" to become a Seal. DO IT!. If you are going in with the mind set that this is an "attempt" you are setting yourself up for failure. If you truly WANT to become a Navy Seal, you will. Go in with the mindset that you will not be denied. Success in anything begins with your mindset and that is definitely true of the U.S. Navy Seal Team.

Having said that...Welcome aboard. Glad to have you join us. :welcome: :clapping: :welcome:

Mike brings out a good point on becoming a SEAL or any other of the hardcore operators. So I offer my $0.02. You gotta excel in two areas - physical and mental. It doesnt matter how tough you are physically - if you aint tough mentally you aint gonna make it. For the physical part, swimming is only one thing. You need to have some excellent upper body strength, endurance, able to climb a rope, able to run and move carrying a heavy load - btw - have you ever done real log drills. For the mental part its more than just convincing yourself you can make it. You're constantly surrounded by your peers who you must work with as a team and compete with and instructors constantly watching and in your face. Oh and real sleep - forget it for a while. If you want to check your mental and physical endurance see how long you can merely sit and tread water in a 50 degree pool or stay on the go hiking through the woods with 75 lbs of gear and no sleep or real rest. To give you an idea you'll probably burn around 4000 calories or more a day during your initial few weeks of training.

I would do some research and find some exercise programs designed by SEALS for training - perhaps you already have (link below to get you started). I would also consider putting together a progression when you enlist. Sign up for a course thats a little easier so you can get acclimated.

Having said all that I wish you the very best of luck and hope you make it. As a last note I would think about SEAL or CT. You might want to make it SEAL and CT if you're really interested in that kind of stuff. You will most likely earn a technical qualification before going to BUDS anyway. SEALs dont just run around in SCUBA gear shooting bad guys and blowing things up. You'll also do other things and knowledge in electronics, computer science, medical, psychology, etc will help tremendously.

Good Luck!!! and as I said - just my $0.02.

Apologies for the diatribe. I'm home today doing other stuff and had some extra time.

eagleeye44 and zephyp: Thank you both for your advice and believe me, I am going in with the attitude that I am going to make it through. However, there seems to be a lot of failure when people get over confident. I have done many an exercise, trust me. Swimming 6-8 miles a day and running the same amount for many years. I am not one to just do something and stop, if I want it. And trust me, I want this. I know that the SEALs don't just go running around in SCUBA gear and shoot people and blow stuff up. That, I am very well aware of. SEALs also do quite a bit of recon and they will continue to do it.

I have done everything I can already to get into the NAVY. They turned me down about two months ago because of my eyes, but I have had that fixed and am now in the healing process. I scored a 93% on my ASVAB test and only missed 1 on the coding portion that comes at the end (I finished the entire thing within 4 minutes). I have already had three years of college and this is my way to take a small break from school and serve my country, people, and family. I will finish my schooling and, if I do make it out of service with my life, then I would like to get a law degree.

Once again, thank you all for the warm welcomes and I hope to make myself, family, and country proud by serving as a NAVY SEAL.

Yes sir, I will keep you guys posted as soon as something happens. I am in the healing process (their rules, not mine), and it will be a few months before I will be allowed into the service. However, as soon as I know something, I will be updating more than one website with my intentions and dates.

I am also in the market for a new firearm, I will be posting a thread about one shortly.
