.223/5.56 rifle that shoots STEEL case ammo?
I was giving some thought to a WASR 3, but Ive yet to find anything definitive on it's true reliability. It is NOT in the same reliability class as a WASR 10.
So I am still wondering... what GP driven rifle out there is KNOWN for shooting steel case .223/5.56?
Thanks,
JC

Mini-14 seems handle it well. Search the web under "Mini-14 steel cased ammo" and you'll see a ton of posts with a big thumbs up. There are suggestions that the berdan primers are "hard" on the firing pin and may break them. My gut suggests something else is contributory like fp protrusion. In Mini-30's, sometimes the steel cased stuff may not fire and folks have identified the fp doesn't protrude far enough to really hit the primer.
And if Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell!

The Arsenal looks like what Im after. Its a bit pricey for my purse, BUT... would be worth it IMHO.
Thank you kindly for pointing that weapon out.
If anyone has one to add to the list, please do so! It will be a while before I can afford anything in this class so Ive got respectable time to do the research.

Here's my advice... If youre only gonna shoot steel cased stuff just Get an AK and be done with it. AK is cheaper, the ammo is cheaper, and you don't have to worry about it not functioning with steel cased stuff.
Aaa and if you have to have steel cased 223, the AK comes chambered in that too.

I had a SCAR 17 and 16. I also had a bunch of Glocks and a couple H&K pistols. Oh and a DDM4, but I sold everything when our government told me these dangerous tools can actually hurt someone. Apparently they grow legs and go on killing sprees.

An AK in. 223 is heretical.

X39 AKs are already in inventory, I was exploring options.
In the end, seams that putting the money that it would take for the purchase of another firearm would be better spent on adding ammo to the bank.

If the OP decides on purchasing another firearm after all....GeneFrenkle wrote:Mini-14 seems handle it well. There is a board participant here (maybe former, by now, I don't know) who has/had a Mini-14 from about the year 2000. He shot nothing but the Russian steel Golden Tiger .223 in it for at least 10 years. He reported that the ammo functioned through his Mini just fine.
I have shot a Mini-14 as well with Russian steel-cased rounds (Boxer primed Wolf and Tulammo, of fairly recent vintage), and that particular Mini-14 seemed to take it well. The newer Mini's are said to be more precise shooters than the original ones from years back, around 2 MOA or so nowadays.

Ruger started using thicker barrels. Especially the stoutest "tacticool" one with the flash hider, earlier know as NRA model or something to that nature, is a bit more accurate even with a shorter barrel as it deforms less shot to shot.

I've shot a DPMS AR and it handled steel no problem. I have also shot a Saiga in 223 w/o problems, either. A Polish Beryl AK variant or Bulgarian 5.56 AK variant would be just fine also. Or an M85 Yugo AK pistol.

I miss my Arsenal and regret selling it. It pretty much ate everything and anything…
Re: .223/5.56 rifle that shoots STEEL case ammo?
I've shot a fair share of steel ammo through my SIG 556 without any problems. Rifle is pretty much a hybrid, AR features but the internals are almost the same as an AK47
