VA Concealed Carry with out-of-state driver's license?

Hi, I'm in the military, would like to get a VA concealed carry permit, but I'm on a ND driver's license. Anyone know if this is okay or do I need a VA license? thx, awiz11

hmm..good question - I don't know the answer right off and will have to defer to another member to pick up the slack. I'll know next time someone asks this question though!

I think your best bet is going to be to call the VSP. You can look HERE but I don't think you'll find your answer.

You will probably need to get a non-resident CHP since you're still considered a ND resident.

ND does not have reciprocity with VA so you probably do need to get a VA non-resident permit to carry in the Old Dominion.

Hi,

As an active duty servicemember stationed in VA, you may (and should) apply for a VA RESIDENT concealed handgun permit. I hold a resident CHP with a FL driver's license... no problems. I verified the validity of this at the courthouse while applying for the permit.

You will need a copy of your orders, stationing you in VA, when you apply.

I also am active duty military stationed in VA and have a KY D.L. All I needed was my military ID and $50 with the application to obtain my CWP.
We must arm ourselves...to the teeth.

Thanks for the clarification from the active duty guys.

So, active duty, here on orders - regardless of residency - can get a VA RESIDENT Concealed Handgun Permit.
