California Governor VETOES Bill to Ban Semi-Auto Rifles

Post by ShotgunBlast »

I almost fell out of my chair when I read this. I did have to pick my jaw up from the floor however.
The governor vetoed a bill that would have banned the sale and transfer of almost all semi-auto rifles.
Score one for preemption too.
In another win for gun rights advocates and state preemption, the governor also vetoed a bill which would have allowed Oakland to set its own gun laws.
I'm not a hunter, so I'm not sure about the implications of this. If you can't use lead, what do you use instead? Copper?
In bad news, the governor signed the bill that will ban lead ammunition for hunting, which is likely to make hunting in the state much more difficult and expensive.

Yes, there are some all copper or brass projectiles. E.g. Barnes. Also, frangible ammo which is non-toxic, but they are not good hunting bullets. They're designed to reduce lead exposure for high volume users or instructors.

The NRA, and possibly the SAF, threatened them with legal action if they banned semi-auto rifles. Given the recent decisions in D.C. and Chicago, Governor Moonbeam knew it was a lost cause.

Suck it, gun grabbers
