1. Help needed for the VCDL booth at THIS WEEKEND'S Virginia Beach gun show!
******************************************************

From gun show coordinator Gary F. Moeller:

We have need of your help again to man the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL) tables at the Virginia Beach Gun Show to be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on October 12-13, 2013.

We desperately need volunteers to cover the Saturday afternoon shift. If you're unable to work a full shift, let me know what you can do and I’ll try to work you in. Any and all help is appreciated!

If you have questions or want to help, address your email to me at vbgunshow@vcdl.org

For those of you who haven’t done it before, first you have to be a member of VCDL (you can join or renew at the show), and second you will be paired with an experienced person so you won’t be left in the dark.

PLEASE HELP!

2. Graham Cory's court appeal tomorrow on a false charge of brandishing
******************************************************

On Thursday, October 10, Graham Cory, who is falsely charged with brandishing a firearm for merely moving a gun from one location to another in his vehicle, will have his appeal heard in a Henrico court. A hoplophobic bus driver saw Graham move the gun and later called the police to say that Graham had brandished the gun.

The original judge inexplicably found Graham guilty!

Thursday is the appeal and we are hoping that Graham is found to be innocent and his ordeal with this false charge will end. When I hear the result of this case, I'll let you know how it turned out.

******************************************************
3. VCDL President to speak at VCU Young Republicans meeting on Oct. 15
******************************************************

Note: Carry is prohibited in VCU buildings.

From Eric Pollitt:

On Tuesday, October 15, the VCU College Republicans will be having their monthly meeting with special guest speaker Philip Van Cleave, President of the Virginia Citizens Defense League.

Mr. Van Cleave will be speaking about concealed carry on campus and why universities should allow it for the protection of their students. He will also be speaking about gun safety and other related firearms topics.

Field Directors from Republican Campaigns will also be speaking. They will be discussing the latest campaign events.

The doors will be open at 8 pm, and the meeting will begin at 8:30 pm in the Virginia Room of the VCU Commons located on the second floor.

4. VCDL membership meeting in Charlottesville on Tuesday, Oct 29
******************************************************

Once again, the Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club (RRPC) is hosting a VCDL membership meeting. You need not be a member of VCDL or RRPC to attend these meetings. In fact, we encourage you to bring your family and friends. Many don't understand what VCDL is all about and this is the perfect way to introduce them to our organization. It is also a great opportunity to visit RRPC, get a feel for the atmosphere and check out the facilities.

We will begin with a pot luck dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by the meeting which begins around 7:00. The entree and beverages are supplied and we request that you bring a dish to share. We will be serving turkey, gravy and mashed potatoes. If you are unable to bring a dish, please don’t let that stop you from joining us. There is always plenty!

If you are attending the dinner please RSVP to Pat.Webb@vcdl.org. In the subject line put the number of people attending the dinner (i.e. 10/29 VCDL meeting 2 for dinner). If you are attending the meeting only there is no need to reply. Our continued thanks to RRPC for their hospitality.

Directions:

Rivanna Rifle and Pistol Club
1570 Old Lynchburg Road
Charlottesville, VA 22903

From Interstate 64, take exit 120 SOUTH
Travel 4 miles to range on right

5. ACTION ITEM: Comment period open on BATFE's new regulation to make buying machine guns/silencers harder
******************************************************

The BATFE is following through on President Obama's push to expand federal gun regulations on the purchase of Class III items, such as machine guns and silencers, by corporations, trusts, or other legal entities. Even though no crimes are being committed with legally owned Class III items, law abiding citizens will once again be expected to shoulder the burden to give the appearance that the federal government is taking meaningful actions to curb gun violence."

McAuliffe Can Buy a Gun Today, Ban Virginians' Guns Tomorrow
by AWR Hawkins 2 Oct 2013 43

Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe can buy a gun today and ban Virginians' guns tomorrow.

He is a gun control chameleon that does what he must to get the votes and the money needed to succeed.

This explains how he could wander into a Virginia gun store in January and make sure reporters knew he bought a Beretta shotgun, then spend the next few months campaigning on banning "assault weapons," passing universal background checks, closing the gun show loophole, and telling Virginians he will only let them buy one gun a month if he wins the governorship.

Think about it--McAuliffe handled finances for Bill Clinton's 1992 and 1996 presidential runs. He raised record amounts of money to make Clinton unbeatable, and remained mum on Clinton's "assault weapons" ban, magazine limitations at 10 rounds, or the institution of back ground checks with a waiting period.

And McAuliffe remained close to the gun-banning Clintons long beyond the 1990s. Giving the impression by association that his views and their views on guns are more similar than different.

Then McAuliffe traded bad for worse when he began nurturing ties with Bloomberg. After all, Bloomberg is an anti-gunner through and through. Yet as with Clinton, McAuliffe has no criticism for Bloomberg's gun control antics.

When Bloomberg sided with gun control politicians instead of the people of Colorado in September, McAuliffe was silent. When Bloomberg sided with Senator Joe Manchin's (D-WV) gun control scheme in April instead of siding with the American people, McAuliffe did not say a word.

What will McAuliffe do when Bloomberg says it's time to take Virginians' guns away?

So McAuliffe bought a shotgun in January? Big deal. That's a small price to pay for the opportunity to win the governorship and gain the chance to ban entire classes of firearms in the state of Virginia.

9. Clarification - guns are NOT banned at hospitals by law
******************************************************

In the VCDL Update on 9/27/13, item #5 "'No concealed guns' signs at Halifax Regional Hospital locations" implied that it was illegal to have a gun on hospital property in Virginia. That is NOT true. However, hospitals can ban guns just like any other private property owner.

******************************************************
10. U.S. Senate web site still thinks there is a question as to whether the 2A is an individual right
******************************************************

"Whether this provision protects the individual's right to own firearms or whether it deals only with the collective right of the people to arm and maintain a militia **has long been debated.**"

Uh, hello? Is anyone home? The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled definitively on that issue years ago: D.C. vs Heller and Chicago vs McDonald.

12. Why Virginia no longer recognizes Missouri permits
******************************************************

According to Tom Lambert with the Virginia State Police, the reason that Virginia no long honors Missouri CHPs is that Missouri no longer can validate their permits 24/7.

We need to simply honor all permits and put an end to his baloney, especially the ridiculous and unnecessary 24/7 validation requirement.
