Need quick feedback, pls! 19SEP

Post by UnderwaterMike »

I don't know much about ARs (although I have a safe queen LR-308). I have a nice PSA stripped lower. Is this a good deal on an upper build kit?

Even though I can't really afford it right now, I want to build a 5.56, so I can have one rifle for Son #1 and one for Son #2 once the divorce is over.

I have heard from experts good things about PSA quality.

You could pay as much as $1,100 for uppers from companies like Sig and Colt and not get the lower parts kit with it. So money wise, it looks like a hellofa deal. Plus it is already free-floated, which is a big plus.

I have never owned PSA hardware, but I too have heard good things about them.

Honestly, if I had the cash I would order one right now. Looks like a nice find.

Only thing I'm trying to find out from them -- and they never answer the phone -- is whether the buffer tube is milspec or commercial. They carry kits with both diameters, and don't specify which one is in that particular kit. :(

Bought it! Thanks for the help, guys. I can't really afford it, but staying busy is keeping my mind off the legal bills! Now I just need a few more tools. :D

Congrats! I think you made a good choice. Keep us in the loop as you get it together and tested.

BTW, if I held off on buying toys until I thought I could afford it, I would never get anything. LOL

Just got the goods delivered today (yes, Palmetto is backordered like crazy).

My original idea for the lower kit was as a quick project for me and my son. Welp! Once I priced out even the most basic tools for the job, it added $200 to the cost. Just can't justify that now.

:enlighten:

Instead, the gents at Sterling Arsenal hooked me up. I brought the lower and LPK into the shop this afternoon, and it was assembled while I waited. Twenty minutes later and I'm out the door -- and at a very reasonable price, too.

Thanks, guys. You saved me from spending even more money at Midway and Brownells. Instead, I can concentrate on buying ammo in yet another caliber!

I have heard that even PSA blems are better quality, fit and finish than some.

Dunno, as this is my first AR build. But everything looks groovy. Prolly won't get it to the range for at least a week.

Happy to post pix when I get a chance. Anything in particular you'd like to see?
