Carrying halfway concealed

Post by MrJog »

I'm sure this has been talked about before, but I still haven't heard the final word. What is the legality of carrying your firearm in a manner where it is partially exposed, or printing where someone may be able to identify it? Obviously I am talking about concealed permit holders.

Well, the way I see it both CC and OC are legal so there shouldn't be a problem.

Yup, what ShotgunBlast said. IANAL, but If you have a CHP, you are covered for OC, CC both, so you're good to go. I carry semi-concealed often. I toss an open Hawaiian shirt over a t-shirt most of the time, so I'm sure the breeze exposes my sidearm sometimes.

I do that when I tote the JHP instead of the C9. :)

Some states have a distinction - i.e., they don't allow OC, and if you carry concealed, it must stay concealed. It can't be seen, nor can it print in a manner to be identifiable as a firearm, or you're in violation of the law.

Since VA is an OC-legal state (Commonwealth, if you prefer), then having a CHP and printing or carrying semi-concealed is not a problem.
