Prices for Ammunition (.223)
What is a fair price these days to sell ammunition for (specifically .223) w/o being considered a price gouger?
I'm going to put up some .223 PMC Bronze up for sale in a the next day or so and I want to be fair, but not naive when it comes to selling it. I'd hate to sell it and then see someone else post it for sale at a higher cost.
When looking online, I've seen it going for (currently) at least .65 to 1.00 per round (seems to be averaging .80 per round).
What do you all think?

surplusammo has it for 70 cents a round now. I still think that is steep. Under 50 cents is what is considered a good deal now. Anything in stock at 50 cents or less sells out the same day. Personally I think anything over 25 cents a shot is too much. But I only see those prices these days during the first 2 hours of the gun shows.

Well, considering I can still get .223 at Walmart for .35 - .45 a round depending on what they have in, I wouldn't pay more than that.

Sadly, if you sell it for less than $0.80 a round, you're probably just selling it to someone that will turn around and sell it for $0.80 a round (or more).
If you personally know someone that won't do that, sell it to them for $0.50-$0.60 and you'll probably both be happy.

The market will tell you what the fair price is because it will either sell or it won't.

Just picked up a pile of Lake City 7.62x51 from Silver Eagle for $0.83/rd. Got home and found some on Armslist even cheaper. Supply is coming up and prices are going down. I've seen 5.56 on Armslist as low as $0.50/rd again, which is an improvement.

Yep. And it is less than 50 cent per round based on the fact I have been trying to sell some brand name 223 for 50 cents and no takers. LOLShotgunBlast wrote:The market will tell you what the fair price is because it will either sell or it won't.

Well, yes and no. It depends on how big of a market you're advertising to. If you're just posting a for sale listing on this forum, you're advertising to a really small market that consists of people that tend to either have enough already to not warrant paying a higher price or will grudgingly wait until prices and supply return to the levels of yesteryear. If you look at places like gunbot or gunbroker that caters to a national market you may see per round prices a little higher because there are more people in those markets looking for ammo.Rich wrote:Yep. Your valuation of 50 cents per round seems about right (to me) for 223 so I'd also wonder about other aspects of your advertising.

I picked up 28 bxs. Tula .223 and 19 bsx.Tula 7.62x39 for $7/bx. this morning from a private seller. I'm sure he paid $5/bx. at Walmart....He said he was asking $10/bx. but had no interest. At .35/ea. still not too bad.

"National markets. Aspects of advertising." Jeez. I aint trying to sell a freaking Rembrandt. But seriously...appreciate your input.ShotgunBlast wrote:Well, yes and no. Recently picked up 750 rds of PMC XTac 5.56 for .55 cents per rd., as other have stated the market will dictate the price.
