Odd question

I saw at a shop a .380 revolver which uses a moon clip to hold the round in place. Now given that a 380 is rimless could I fire a 38 S&W (that's not a special fyi) through it instead because they are revolver rounds?

I like .38 special, so when looking for ammo I've seen .38 S&W on occasion. Looked different, so I passed. So I did a Google search on this. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.38_S%26W The .38 S&W is a round that has been around since 1877. I wouldn't think that it would be a particularly hot round but who knows what the pressure in the gun is, compared to .380? The round may fit the cylinder, but weird things could happen.

Currently no revolvers are made in this caliber, and only a few companies still manufacture ammunition. The majority that do offer it in only a 145 grain Lead Round Nose bullet, Although Fiocchi still markets FMJ rounds. No known hunting or self-defense rounds are known to be manufactured today

I'd go with .380 rounds in moon clips. Stick with what you know works.
BTW, I like the idea of ACP rounds in a revolver. A revolver in .45 auto is on my wish list. Embrace that .380!!

Came back to this too late to edit... In looking at a comparison of .380 auto vs. .38 S&Wm I found that .380 is .984" length and .38 S&W is 1.240". Not sure if the cylinder wil accommodate that.

Ah ok thanks, it's was worth a shot because I was looking at several revolvers and it was the smallest and lightest as it had an aluminum frame. I guess I'll go with my second choice the .357, it's hammerless and oddly the same size as the .38 sp I was looking at.

I'd rather have the .357. A buddy of mine has a Taurus .357; it's standard weight, as opposed to featherweight, so it doesn't have much recoil. Contrast that with my sisters featherweight .38... she stopped practicing on account of the recoil from that.

That's what I bought, it's the blued hammerless .357. I like it, it'll make a good CC piece, I can't wait to shoot it! Unfortunately I couldn't find any .357 ammo so I bought some .38 sp ammo for it. Last box the store had too!
