Went to NVGC today

Post by allingeneral »

I took the girls to the NVGC today for their first time shooting. It was a good time. I took the .40 S&W, Taurus .38 Special and Mossberg 12ga.

After some coaching and firearm safety training, we got started. They both fired the .40 first, then the .38 and we finished up with the 12ga. We shot about 200 rounds total. Here are a couple of pictures of the outing.

Howdy, Rick,

How old are your kids? Did they enjoy using the handguns?

My oldest (of four) is 12. I have been thinking of getting a .22 rifle to start them out with 'cause I didn't think they would take to a handgun.

Regards,

George

Great pics Rick. How did they like the 12 gauge? I could only persuade Young to shoot mine once and then she passed it back to me shaking her head. Sure looks like they liked the pistols. That looks like a great place to shoot.

They are 15 and 11. The 11 year old was a little worried about the shotgun at first and had a tough time cocking the .38. I helped her hold the shotgun the first two rounds, then let her go with it. After she got it figured out, she didn't want to stop!

The 15 year old liked the shotgun too, but she was the pistol girl while we were there. Here's a video...it's 3+ minutes long, so not a download for the faint of heart.

Cool Pictures!

I think every female in the world leans back when shooting! My daughter is 13 and has been shooting for a few years. She enjoys my MKIII Hunter the most, and she looks identical to your girls in her stance. She is a great shot, but I tried to "help" her shoot more comfortable, and lean forward. No beans, she shoots much better her way, so that is what she does.

My wife, same thing. oh well, whatever works right. I don't care how they shoot, as long as they come shooting with me I am very happy!

I also take my 12yr old daughter shootin. She loves the Ruger SR9, she also would lean back but we/ve been woring on it lately and she's coming around. I let her see the video of your girls and now she wants to try the 12 Ga. The only problem I see is that my shotgun doesn't have the pistol grip & the stock is too long for her. Good times.

Yep - the pistol grip on the 12ga was a lifesaver for my munchkins yesterday.

I wish I could get them to slow down a little bit and take a shot, recover, re-aim, fire again. They were all about bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-bang-click "Dad, we need more ammo" lol

Sounds like you need a couple of .22's, a pistol and a rifle. Much cheaper to burn through that ammo.

Where is that range located and is it open to the public? It looks as though you had it all to yourself.

Great video Rick! Your daughter looks pretty confident with that shotgun. Maybe I need to get a pistol grip for Young's benefit. She was obviously impressed watching her shoot that big scatter gun.

I did have it all to myself - it was late Friday morning/early afternoon. The Club is not open to the public, but I can meet you there for a bit of shooting if you want.

Here is an earlier post that explains membership requirements and range details.

That sounds like a plan. I ordered an AR today & I will need to try it out. We'll plan something in the future.

Sounds good. Let me know when you're free. A weekday afternoon/evening would probably work best.

Read your fine posts on NVGC and would like to know how the weekends are like there. I'm interested since they have a 200 yd range and most of my shooting opportunities would be on the weekends.

I just took my family today and we shot about 250 rounds total. We were there for 2 hours and saw four other people. Everyone was on the 25 yard pistol range. No one on the 100/200 rifle range at all the whole time we were there. It was a nice day out, we talked with a couple that was there. They were really nice people. It's always nice to meet good people and "shoot the breeze" :)
