The Daily Show - Veterans Benefits Segment

Post by ShotgunBlast »

Many of you may not like The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, but I had to share one of the best segments I've seen on the show in quite some time from a few nights ago. The first segment of the show (not shown in this clip) has Democratic leadership sound bytes about how there's a role for government to solve problems and that it's the Republicans who are getting in the way from getting anything done. Then Stewart rolls into this segment that blasts the Dems for the horrible treatment of vets even though the VA has seen increased funding over the last four years. Stewart makes the point that if you complain about someone getting in the way but have situations like this where there's no one to get in the way but yourselves, something's wrong.

I was freakin outraged with how outdated and backlogged the VA disability benefits is and the fact that the VA uses a different computer system than the DOD and that they don't communicate is inexcusable. As the commander in chief, pick a system and let's get everyone going through more efficiently.

Bonus points for the studio audience who will laugh at just about anything Stewart says to start to laugh at 1:16 and immediately shift to a collective "woah".

Years ago, I supported a contract for the VBA, and their offices worked (work?) like manufacturing facilities. A bell would ring to start work, another for break time start, another for returning to work, etc. It was surreal.
