WTF is wrong with my Garand?
WTF is wrong with my Garand?
So I was at the range yesterday and my M1 began to attempt to eject the clip after firing a few rounds. This happened a couple times, anyone know what the heck is going on or what to do about it? I don't know if I've worked the follower to death or it just isn't being friendly. I got a few full clips off with no issues but eventually packed it up after a few fouled up attempts. Any thoughts VGOF?
Re: WTF is wrong with my Garand?
This is a common issue and easily fixed. There are several things that could be causing the issue
Here is a list of issues in the order that they normally occur
#1Weak Clip Latch Spring or Bad enblocs
#2 Worn lobe on bullet guide
#3 Worn Clip Latch
First does it malfunction with all enblocs or just certain ones, what is stamped on the base of the enblocs?
Take out the clip latch spring and strecth it, reassemble and fire rifle. If rifle functions properly buy a new clip latch spring.
If these two things dont solve your problem report back and I can tell you how to measure the other parts to see if they are inspec
99% of the time its either #1 or#2 causing enblocs to eject prematurly

Re: WTF is wrong with my Garand?
I'll do a follow up, probably next week when I pull it out of storage and GI the thing. I have to make some time at the range to go test fire it. In passing none of the parts look particulary worn or anything. I mean the rifle is one of the new model .308s that Springfield Armory (Serial Number in the 7100000 range!) doesn't make any more or at least advertise on their webpage. Probably in excess of 1200 rounds through it. I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
Re: WTF is wrong with my Garand?
Thanks Donut, Not sure where you live, But You're always Welcome to bring it by and shoot at my 100 yard range. I have the Identical .308 Garand I bought back in the 80's, - Sadly I haven't put nearly as many rounds thru mine as you have. Look forward to your update.

Might have been a good idea to tell us this to begin with.
Even though it hasnt had many rds through it it was built with used parts.
As I stated in my first post check the clip latch spring first.
I would also make sure to use USGI enblocs. Foreign made enblcos can cause issues

Serial number in the seven million, one hundred thousand range?
I didn't know the GI M1's went that high.
