Are you cutting back on your training w/ammo costs?

I am taking some training, and the wife will be in a couple of months, and man, the cost of ammo is making me cringe. I stockpiled some but with current costs, I know every magazine swap I will be thinking, "There goes $." I know, I know, focus on the training, but I'm not made of money.

How about you guys? Cutting back? Don't care? Have enough stockpiled any training doesn't affect you?

Me? I'll be shooting the Wolf ammo first.

I like to keep some 22lr guns around to get in cheap practice on fundamentals. Doesn't work for all types of practice, but it helps defray costs a bit.

I don't think as of yet that I have cut back on any shooting...Maybe what I am shooting has changed. I have been shooting a lot of .22LR. and quite a bit of .38 sp. reloads. I was shooting a lot of .223 / 7.62 and .45 LC.Since 2009 I have been buying .22LR at least 500 rd. bx./week. and around 100 rds. .38 sp reload / week.Lately I have been buying what ever is on the shelf. I have a buddy that has a great basement and we have been shooting our Stoeger X10 .177 pellet rifles....It's still shooting and great FUN !

I have at least 1000 rounds of every caliber I shoot, but I haven't been to a range since June I think I'll have to bust out the .22 rimfires for the next few months while I get back into reloading. I ran out of components last year, then got into motorcycles. Hatfield's is done with my competition pistol, so I'll be shooting the .40 rounds I have left, and reloading them. Thank goodness most of the other shooters at the ranges I went to left their brass, I have LOTS of .223, 9mm, .40 and .45 ACP brass. I just need the bullets now, I stockpiled a few thousand primers a while back.

Nope, I haven't slowed down one bit. But then, I reload my own, so cost hasn't been an issue for me for a little bit now. The one exception is .22LR, but I can make .38 Special for so cheap it's almost like buying .22LR.

I've become a little more stingy, yes, but because of availability, not cost.

My range currently limits me to purchasing 2 boxes a day and cracking the seals on the 1000 round cases I have is as hard for me as breaking a 20 dollar bill for a soda.

Last Friday, I took the day off and went on a daytime date with the wife to a local range, where we shot .45, .380, 22LR and 5.56.

While we have over 1000 rounds each caliber, I later realized that by shooting the evil black rifle , it cost me, in today's ammo value, $100. Granted, I paid significantly less for it, but it's the replacement cost that's giving me pause.

Like others, I think I'll stick to 22LR for a while and wait for prices to become less insane.

Just after I posted, I realized that I should mention: I went to the Camp Allen PX today after lunch and picked up 3 boxes (50/ea) of 5.56, made by CBC, for $22/box.

While $0.43/round, that's still much better $0.97-$1.10/round out there on the interwebz.

I have certainly cut back, because I only have so much ammo and I do not want to shoot most of it, and discover that I cannot replace it.

I was interested in a Law Enforcement NRA training course in June. Students have to supply their own ammo for the class. You need 900 rounds of handgun ammo and 175 rounds of shotgun shells (slugs, buckshot). I called the NRA today and asked how they handle the current training with ammo shortage and where are the students finding the ammo? They told me many of the students are calling to drop the classes!

My sister has stated cost as a factor in refraining from shooting. That and the recoil aggravates her carpal tunnel. I keep telling her to off load that silly feather weight thing.
