Military to purchase more ammo in 2009?
Military to purchase more ammo in 2009?
I was told that 5.56 ammo will be very hard to get by the end of 12/09, due to the military increasing their purchases. This came from a person supposed to be in the know. Has anyone else heard this?

Everything I've heard says that Lake City is not operating at capacity now. I'd think they'd increase production to full capacity before buying elsewhere.

There has been some legislation affecting ammo producers wrt military contracts - empahsis on primers and brass. Also some fiascos with destroying military brass and denying civilian access to once fired from military ranges I think.
If you check stores now and online you will find more than enough .223 or 5.56 ammo at good prices. If you're concerned, stock up now.
With regards to the ammo shortage similar issues have occurred in the past. One was started a few years ago as a rumor about TP, which quickly disappeared from store shelves. The ammo producers normally produce enough to keep up with demand and honor military contracts. There were obvious runs starting last fall. Looks like that is easing up a little bit now and they are starting to catch up, but who knows what these boneheads are planning behind closed doors.
Edit: almost forgot, obama is planning to send more troops to Afghanistan and the commander over there is also calling for more. That will no doubt increase demand. Could also affect 9mm but probably not as much.

No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...
