All I can say is WOW! I would have never expected this in California! There is some who oppose it and will more than likely try to stop it. But for now, Good for the school district.

>>The weapons, which cost $1,000 each, are high-powered weapons that are accurate at longer range and can pierce body armor.

How hard are they throwing those rifles that they can go through body armor at longer range?

>> "Those rifles have ricocheting ammunition ... they can go right through people," Garcia said.

I wonder what ammo they're using.
And if Bruce Dickinson wants more cowbell, we should probably give him more cowbell!

So, they look "intense" and are "scary?" Genius. Maybe the school should spend a little more money and have them duracoated pink.

I guess my post was a poor attempt at sarcasm.

Believe me, I am not falling into the media trap. I was stationed in California for a number of years and they have always been tough on guns. And I also know that if the California gun grabbers get their way, the school district will not have them for long.

As for the 30.06, to what jdonovan noted, I would add sink a Navy destroyer!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't these the same "high-powered rifles" that any LE responding to the school would have in his vehicle? It sounds like the school staff is getting tired of waiting for the first responders to arrive.

The parents were worried and scared of the Shriff's words: "that if a child were to bring in a toy gun, or a real one, that they would be neutralized."
How about briefing the kids ahead of time about what NOT to bring, rather than waiting until they DO, and something tragic happens?? I think schools assume too much, that parents should already have... Well, I guess the REAL question is how much parenting should the SCHOOL have to do to make up for lack of common sense??? Common knowledge we USED to take for granted is in such limited supply these days...

I have no problem with the idea. Let the LE bring superior firepower but don't then stand their and tell me the rifles have no defensive merit when even California is going to use them just as such.
