NY State falls

Post by Mindflayer »

http://m.usatoday.com/article/news/1833 ... ode=single

The GOP went along with it. Don't forget that - the DEM and GOP are not your friends.

"Cuomo's bill, which was formally proposed after 8 p.m., also makes changes to laws regarding the mentally ill. If a mental-health professional decides someone is a potential risk to others or themselves, they would be required to alert the authorities, who would have the ability to confiscate any firearms that person may own.

Assault weapons -- defined as any rifle with a "military style" feature, such as a bayonet or a telescoping stock -- that are currently owned would be grandfathered and would have to be registered with the state. Magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds and manufactured before 1994, which are currently legal, would have to be turned over to authorities or sold out of state within one year. If a magazine has a capacity between eight and 10, it would have to be retrofitted to only hold seven rounds.

Under Cuomo's plan, the state would have one year to set up an instant background check system for all ammunition purchases. Law enforcement would be alerted to large purchases of ammunition."

"No one hunts with an assault rifle," Cuomo said. "No one needs 10 bullets to kill a deer. End the madness."

My Chief is piiiiissed. He's being PCS'd to NYC and he's a gun enthusiast. Too bad he thought on buying a new AR for too long... I wonder what kind of wording they have in there for LE/Military folks, if any. Probably nothing... I doubt the Demwits understand we protect their butts 24/7 whether in or out of uniform.

And it begins. This is what scares the hell out of me, slowly dissecting the 2nd Amendment.

I read that it was passed overnight, the Gov has suspended the 3 day rule, and they're trying to get it passed by the house today. The suspicion is that Mass, CT, and CA will become bold because of this.

It hasn't passed the Assembly yet, so not all hope is gone. If this bill is enacted, the only choice for New York residents will be civil disobedience. The experience of Germany and Australia, both of which had very low compliance with gun-grabbing laws, will be repeated in NY.

Here is a stupid question.

1. How would the State know if you owned one?
2. If they go back through NICS system what stops someone from removing a collapsible stock for a fixed one? Understand it should not be this way but short term to avoid registration.
3. Sell a magazine to have a record of a sale and bury the rest.

Don't get me wrong, this scares the poop out of me especially if it is the tip of the ice burg. But it would seem there are ways around it.

Wow. Auto swap for poop. Had I know I would have used "this scare large amounts of mixed consistency and horribly offensive smelling fecal matter out of me".

I feel for the folks in NY, particularly those outside NYC who seem more reasonable. Found this link to the legislation:

When legislative bodies meet in private, hurry things through, and break rules to pass laws, there is something very, very wrong.

Yes, there is. Tyranny is on the march. Watch out.

It will pass the Assembly no problem. As for knowing if you have one; no private sales of any firearm in NY, so unless yours is stolen or you brought it in from out of state, they already know you had one.
Magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds and manufactured before 1994, which are currently legal, would have to be turned over to authorities or sold out of state within one year. If a magazine has a capacity between eight and 10, it would have to be retrofitted to only hold seven rounds.
Damn, all those cops with glock 17's are gonna be pissed...oh wait, this wont apply to them. Only the proles.

If no one "needs" more than 10 rounds, why do they?

Glad I left that shithole of a state.

Somehow I am convinced that after the initial 5 years it will be almost impossible to renew the license.
Then... Take them silently.

I'm listening to the NY Assembly speak - these folks are going at 110 morons per minute. The derp volume is neck deep. I propose a new unit of measure for stupidity - the Cuomo. The NY Assembly would be at 100 Cuomos.

There have been a few in the opposition of this bill that have been really good.

Yea, I was listening to Tedesco who sounded good. There was one other guy who was pretty reasonable, too (don't recall the name). Trying to balance listening in and doing work.

DiPietro, didn't catch the first name.
There's a whole lot of "well, the Governor decided" and "no, I don't know why we did this, or what this would actually affect".
Seems a whole lot of these folks forgot that they're not there to blindly follow the leader, they're part of that whole "checks and balance" system.

Oh, for those that can't stream it - there was discussion and acknowledgement that civil disobedience would be a factor in minimally ammunition sales.

The USA today live stream is interrupted by a Windows Update Reboot. That's funny.

OMG they just said that the executor for an estate could sell the gun across state lines.
