Gov Cuomo Says You Don't Need More Than 7 Bullets in NY

Post by ShotgunBlast »

New York State is nearing agreement on a proposal to put what would be some of the nation’s strictest gun-control laws into effect, including what Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo vowed on Wednesday would be an ironclad ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, and new measures to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and mentally ill people.

Lawmakers in Albany, seeking to send a message to the nation that the recent mass shootings demand swift action, say they hope to vote on the package of legislation as soon as next week.

The Assembly speaker, Sheldon Silver, a Manhattan Democrat, told reporters on Wednesday that Mr. Cuomo and legislative leaders were “95 percent” of the way toward an agreement. Senate Republicans, considered the only possible obstacle to the governor’s proposal, indicated they did not intend to block a deal.
Mr. Cuomo’s aides said the proposed legislation in New York would expand the definition of what is considered an assault weapon to match California’s law, currently the most restrictive in the nation. But the overall package would go further, they said, by limiting detachable ammunition magazines to 7 rounds from the current 10, and requiring background checks for purchases of ammunition, not just weapons.

Limiting magazines to seven rounds would give New York the toughest restrictions in the nation. Only around half a dozen states currently limit the size of magazines, and most of them allow magazines that contain up to 10 rounds, according to a survey by the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, which advocates gun control. The New York law would also close a loophole that has thwarted enforcement of limits on the size of magazines.
So I guess if/when this goes through, when you order your Glock in the state of NY you'll have the standard choice, the California 10 round choice, or the NY 7 round choice. I wonder why 7 rounds. Why not 4 bullets? Who needs more than 4 bullets to take down a deer? :bangin:

I wonder how much extra work this puts on firearms manufacturers to make the same thing three different ways.

If I were Remington, I would announce my emigration from New York to a state in the USA as quickly as practicable.

These guys really are myopic. The world is not just city and suburbia. Out in rural areas, there are things like coyote and foxes. Coyote run in packs of about 5 and they'll go after all kinds of stuff. 7 round magazine against 5 coyote that are trying to get your livestock? Time for followup shots it pretty critical.

If I were a firearms company with manufacturing in the northeast, I would pack up quickly and quietly and move to friendly, southern, right to work state. If Colt truly wanted to be competitive with FN, they need to get out of Connecticut. Remington should move on out of upstate New York too. Then I would do for New York the same thing that Barrett did to California, tell them "if your citizens can't own my products, your Police agencies won't have them either and he refuses too sell out there.

One thing the clowns of New York, intentionally or unintentionally, have done is go after the M1 Garand and it's 8 shot clip. Another thing they are doing is encouraging the purchase of single stack magazine pistols which would be a little more easily concealed than the double stack. After a little while in NY you will see where the criminal thugs will still have the higher capacity magazines and most New Yorkers won't, unfortunately crimes will go up.
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

I concur with the other postings...

Gun companies in California, Illinois, and in the NorthEast need to pack up, and move SOUTH!

They'd find a more friendly environment, and I think they're enjoy the weather as well.

You know I would like for that yahoo to go out with a rancher dealing with wild animals preying on their herd. I'd like to see him go hang out with people who live around animals that are inherently dangerous. Let him look a grizzly in the eye with only 7 shots. Let him look a pack of feral dogs in the face with seven buckets.

Lets leave the country side. Let him stand in front of his children (please God tell me he has not procreated) in a closet while five home invaders best the door down with only 7 bullets.

He lives in a silk gloved world where he never faces the darker side of nature or the even darker side of humanity. I doubt he gives a darn about the people's lives he is risking with such (I was going to say foolish--but that would imply ignorance, and I think he knows just what he is doing), malicious laws.,

Cuomo has obviouly been in street muggings and gang attacks and therefore has all the answers.

Afterall, he is a public official and we all know they know best.

Just ask them.

Here's an example of what we tend to deal with that suburbia and city folk don't see. It has the mange and was routed through the Sherriff to the State for data collection purposes.

Pretty, ain't it? It was completely unconcerned about me. Imagine it in your back yard with Scruffy, Mr. Bigglesworth, and (last but not least) your young children.

I would like to see all the firearms companies stop supporting any government entities in those states. If their police departments couldn't get mags, ammo or guns it would impact them.

But that is not going to happen. They look for the short term $$ and ignore the long term $$.

WTH is that animal supposed to be? A dog?

I've had to take down a rabid fox once. Luckily (or unlucky/stupidly) I got close enough to shotgun range for him and sent him to his maker. But even then with a shotgun on the thing took 3 shells of buckshot. BUCKSHOT. Can't imagine if I had to shoot him with a pistol with 7 rounds while it's charging at me ~15 MPH and moving all over the place. I would probably hit it, but I enioy having those other 9 bullets as a back up!

@vacoastie - I wasn't sure at fist, when I called it into the Sherriff for Animal Control to come out, I told them it was a "fricken chupicabra". The Deputy and I were talking for a little while and settled on it being a fox with a real bad case of mange, minimally. It was sent through the state collection process to see what other diseases it had. My main concern was rabies since it had no fear of me.

Right now, there are concerns about coyotes. My kids hear them and ge really concerned about being at the bus stop (end of our driveway) alone.. while it is still dark out. So, I wait with them when they want me there.
