Mitch McConnell: No time for guns in first 3 months

Post by MattS »

McConnell thinks the debt ceiling and the kicked can of the "fiscal cliff" will dominate the agenda on the Hill, leaving no time for any gun legislation. I suppose it doesn't stop an EO, but I've actually been thinking the same thing. While Dianne Fiennstien may think this is more important, the debt and budget is just too big of a debate to allow either the White House or Congress to really get their hands dirty with a new weapons ban. Meanwhile, I think you'll see some states take action, which may mitigate the urgency at the federal level to act. Just me playing crystal ball reader I guess. And wishful thinking for someone shopping for a rifle.

Matt, I'm hoping the same. Congress has let way too much go on for far too long without action in the budget and now they'll have their hands tied up.

Personally, this gun ban sillyness I think was just politico BS to show their constituents they "care." Lets not forget, these guys and gals are paid salaries. They continue to get pension once they leave. Do you really think they want to work more than they have to?

"Do you really think they want to work?"

Fixed that for you.

Unfortunately for Mitch he really doesn't have a say on what they have time for in the Senate. If Harry Reid says there's time to talk about guns, that's what they're going to talk about.

Reid has previously had good ratings from the NRA, hopefully he wants to keep them.

So, they putz around with the budget for decades until theres finally public outcry (after the people miraculously unscrew their heads and realize something is wrong) then use it as an excuse to not deal with any other issues?

Don't get mad about that. If Congress did nothing more of the time, they'd do much less damage on balance.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

Don't get complacent. They're hoping we will start grazing and forget the farmer is in the field ready to cash in.
If you want total security, go to prison. There you're fed, clothed, given medical care and so on. The only thing lacking... is freedom.

With our 2 idiot senators from Va being Democrats, not sure how much good it will do but they and our Congress-morons need to hear from their constituents about any new AWB. Also if anybody does not yet belong to the NRA it is past time to join. The only things these avaricious degenerate politicians understand is numbers.

Not sure if they are representative, but leters to the editor in the Richmond newspaper seem to be pretty evenly split between anti-gun and pro-2nd Amendment, or at least pro-common sense - doing away with gun-free victim zones and looking hard at catching mental health issues earlier.
