NRA releases statement on Conn. shooting

Post by ShotgunBlast »

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters – and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.

For some reason, that line worries me. Time will tell, I guess.

down to zero... little by little... 10 years max until you will need a license to buy an air rifle. they cannot do it all at once, but they can boil you slowly and you'll be happy that is warm and cozy.

The NRA will be the first gun lobby to compromise. Not saying that's what this line means but they will be the first to surrender.

For as much as the antis talk about the NRA lobbying machine, it's surprising how many here are saying they'll just roll over.

The NRA helped write the Gun Control Act of 1934 and supported the 1968 one.

I quit the NRA when I learned of this over 10 years ago and haven't sent them a dime since.

Looks like theyre going for a sell-out hat trick.

I'm hoping it will be to suggest reforms in mental health care, school security (like offering NRA shooting classes to school guardian-administrators), and curbing the culture of violence and gore fostered by the gaming and entertainment industries. If not, maybe I'll write them and cancel my life membership. In fact, maybe I'll e-mail them and tell them that today.

There are many problems the government cannot solve. There are some problems that cannot be solved at all. I think this may be one of them.

If the NRA gives on this one, their funding will dry up.

I hope the NRA knows that. We support them because they fight for our right to keep and bear arms. If they roll over on this I will look for a new lobby. But I have confidence that the NRA of today knows they have big feet and will do some butt kicking on friday.

My hope is that they try to address the true causes of this problem. Mental health care in the country, and the general moral rot that infects our land.

The following is the text of a message i sent to the NRA-ILA through the "contact us" function of their website: If anybody has a good direct e-mail to the NRA High-Muckety-Mucks, I'd like to send it there. Perhaps we should all consider sending a similar message to the NRA, and try to encourage others to do so.

As to the Newtown, Connecticut shootings, I read that “The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again”…

I'm hoping those contributions will be along the lines of suggesting reforms in mental health care, school security (like offering NRA shooting classes to school guardian-administrators), curbing the culture of violence and gore fostered by the gaming and entertainment industries, and perhaps curtailing the “victim” and “entitlement” mindsets that seem to spawn so many angry young men.

If NRA makes any concessions to the gun-control lobby, I'll be obliged to re-evaluate my membership. The Obama administration has amply demonstrated that concessions made to them only serve to get their starting point closer to an end goal they will not negotiate at all. PLEASE do not desert us in the interest of political correctness.

I don't know but I hope it's because the NRA wants to be part of the discussion and not excluded by appearing defensive right off the bat. You know, stay close to your friends but stay closer to your enemies.
