Good thing I swore off of GM vehicles because of the bailout.

The UAW was unavailable for comment.

The (very) large international company I work for has closed 60% of its US plants making the product we make and 50% of its European plants making the same products - while building new plants to make these products in China and Indonesia.
Its a fact of life. Corporations have no conscience, no religion, no patriotism, no trustworthiness - they exist to make money, any way they think they can. That's what they exist to do - make money. What happens to the people that work for them doesn't matter if they believe they can make more money producing the product somewhere else.

The shareholders prolly should clearly tell the board to forego dividends and move production back to the states.

Don't forget to add shareholders to that list as well.M1A4ME wrote:Its a fact of life. There’s a little more to it than that. It’s all about labor costs and the global economy. We can talk all we want to about how corporations should accept higher labor costs to keep jobs in this country, but most of us, when we go to WalMart, don’t back that up by actually buying the higher-priced goods. So if a corporation declines to move production offshore and save costs, it places itself in a position where its competitors that DO move jobs overseas can under-price and out-earn them. Ultimately, they either go broke, go out of business, or get bought by their more profitable competitors that DID export the jobs. And even if NO US companies exported jobs, they have foreign-owned competition that will still cheerfully cut their throats; and in that case, the very OWNERSHIP of the means of production goes offshore, rather than just the jobs.
That’s why it is so ridiculous for politicians to say they’re going to “prohibit business from sending jobs overseas”, or “eliminate tax breaks for businesses that send jobs overseas”. [You don’t NEED (indeed, can’t use) tax breaks if you’re losing money! Taxes are imposed upon PROFITS.] These politicians that do that might as well say, “I’ll put anybody that has foreign competitors out of business.” Obama’s prattling about this subject is just one more example of how he either doesn’t know his @ss from a hole in the ground about business and the economy or will tell any damn lie he thinks he can get by with to get re-elected.
It is true that is awfully hard on the US workers that lose their jobs. They are victims of our astronomically high (by world standards) standard of living here in the USA. I have all kinds of sympathy for these people. But tell me, folks, because I don’t understand: What purpose will it serve for the company those people worked for to go out of business when they lose their jobs anyway?
It really is a cold, cruel world out there. We are feeling the icy wind of markets seeking equilibrium in the global economy. Sucks, doesn’t it?

On this subject and pertaining to firearms, I could've bought the "made in Philippines" Nikon ProStaff riflescopes (I hear they're pretty good). Or I could've bought Redfield Revolutions. I chose the latter, specifically because they're made in the USA (Beaverton, OR). Having put a Revolution up against a ProStaff, they both look bright and clear, and both have options for hold-over reticles.
Now it seems that Redfield has a "Revenge" line that's lower priced and is also made in Philippines, like the ProStaffs. I hear the Revenges are also good scopes, but to me, that goes against the point of buying a Redfield scope in the first place, so I'll stick with the Revolutions.
I've been also thinking for a little while now about something in .45 ACP. The choice was either a 1911 or a Glock 21. I like the Glock 21. A lot. It's a good pistol that fills my hand well and is comfortable to shoot. But I've also had the occasion recently to try a Ruger SR1911. That, too, is a very good gun, at an excellent price for what you get, and like all other Ruger firearms, it's Made In USA. Therefore, that's probably the way I'm going to go when that time comes.
Wouldn't it be great if Ruger would make an "SR45" to go with their SR9 and SR40's?
I walked into a Marshall's clothing store and nearly fell over. There were Nike gym socks...that said, "MADE IN USA". Naturally, I stocked up on those, because it's doubtful I'll ever see that again. Also, virtually all of my shoes are Made In USA, from cowboy boots (hence my username) to sneakers. Yep, sneakers. Turns out New Balance has shoe factories in the Northeast USA, and a few of their running shoes are made there. They're well made and carry the label, "MADE IN USA", and therefore that's the only type of running shoe I will buy now.
As customers, I believe we've got to consider these things.

Ruger SR1911 Good gun! Based on the Model 70 series!
As to China, and Chevy? Romney pointed out that JEEPS are being considered for a move to CHINA!
THE MSM BEAT HIM DOWN! BUT... there were articles in the paper about it.
We're losing our country, Nero's fiddling, circuses, and bread for the masses.
