Hi, I have a remington 870 20 gauge. I'm trying to find a shorter stock than the factory one, but there are not as many options for the 20 gauge as they are for the 12 gauge. Do you know where in Alexandria (or close) could I take the stock for shortening? I think I need to cut about 2 inches (it's the wood stock). And then the recoil pad would need to be trimmed and reinstalled or a new recoil pad installed. Would a gun store do it? or should I find a gunsmith? any recommendation?
Thanks!!!
M.
Shortening Shotgun Stock
Re: Shortening Shotgun Stock
Talk to a store and see about the availabity of youth shotgun stock for it. They are 3/4 to an inch shorter and that is usually plenty. Taking 2 inches off of a stock sounds like a little too much to me...
You just have to ask yourself, is he telling you the truth based on knowledge and experience or spreading internet myths?

Personally I would just throw the thing on a table saw and cut it down making sure to keep the angle correct. The tricky thing is when you put the butt pad back on it will be larger than the stock so you'll have to mark it and sand it back down to fit, probably best done with a disc sander with a tilting table to you can set the angle.

Re: Shortening Shotgun Stock
Thanks everyone. I'll try to get the youth stock. I don't have the tools to shorten the one I have and I don't want to make a mess
