Ruger SR22, or Walther P22 Target

Post by TacticalMom »

So been looking at plinkers for my next gun.

Yep I am addicted. I am looking at the Ruger SR22, and the Walther P22 Target.

Anyone have either of these? What do you think?

Well I just picked one up. going to be breaking it in tomorrow. I know nothing about the Walther, and i've only held the SR 22-not shot it yet-but it was what i considered versus the sig- ergonomics, the sig just feels better and more comfortable in my hand than the Ruger. I found it for the same price as SR22s locally, and maybe i'm snobby, but i went for the sig comfort and sleekness over the ruger's boxy feel.

Ruger SR22, or Walther P22 Target

I picked a Ruger when it first came out. No issues at all. Very accurate pistol. A few FTF but it was the cheap bulk ammo. It will eat up Winchester HP and Mini mags no issue with that ammo. About 500 or so rounds so far. Nice little gun.

Had a P-22. It spent more time going back for repair than it did at the range.
They replaced it. The replacement broke. Slide cracked just behind the front sights.
Was told it was an old gun so no more fixes.
My reply “I'll never do business with you again!”
Picked up a SR-22 a few months ago. Great right out of the box.
I'm done with SW (Walther) America.
Get the Ruger.

Have you considered the Sig or GSG 1911? I picked up the Sig for my farm and really like it. Mine handles the cheap Wally world ammo, too. I just had to swap out the front sight with the medium one, and was gtg. Just a thought.

My wife has the P22, I put a red dot on it for her. IIRC Sharpshooters in Lorton has some of the .22 pistols you are looking at for rent. Too bad their range is closed for another week and a half.

Have the Walther and absolutely love it. Was the first gun I had in my hands (this its the female half and I have rather small hands) that was comfortable. Was also the first handgun I owned.

Rarely have any jams and it eats everything I've put through it. I have heavier caliber handguns but this is still my go to plinker and the one I'm considering shooting at the steel challenge.

I've had a P22 for several years and bought an SR22 a couple of months ago. The P22 has the older extractor so the casings come back into my face. I had to disassemble the P22 and do a lot of polishing to keep the trigger bar from destroying the slide. for all the problems, it is a fun shooter. I'm not very accurate with it. The SR22 has better sights (seeing and adjusting) and seems to be an all-round better pistol. Easier to me to shoot accurately. I've had no problems with it. I believe the SR22 is a much better pistol than the P22.

Depends on which one you like.

Prefer my SR-22. Eats any ammo I put in it. Not finicky and prone to issues.

Not going to get a 22 conversion kit for your Glock? Might cost a little bit less than buying another gun and you don't have to learn new controls that could confuse you if you switch back and forth often.
