Glad to hear it worked out for you.
Getting felt to stick shouldn't be hard. Once you're finished with the cutting and sanding, go over the whole thing with 3M tack cloth (I think that's what it's called, anyway), or even some masking tape. That should remove all the dust particles. Get the felt cut to where you want it, spray some contact cement (or whatever they call that glue in an aerosol can) on the back of the felt, and attach. If you plan on covering the entire piece, you could also utilize upholstery tacks in inconspicuous areas that won't be coming into contact with your guns.

Why, my collection of canes and crutches, of course. Can't get those shillelaghs and shepherd's crooks into a short safe, you know.

Someone suggested you buy a lottery ticket... save your money, your luck is all used up for a while =)dorminWS wrote:Locksmith just left. He got it open, and it works like it was new - except for some skinned corners. He did say I was very lucky.

Been on hold for 30 minutes trying to buy one from them. I could make one using the pieces of the broken one for a pattern, but I'd never get the felt to stick to it; so I'll buy one if I don't die of old age waiting on hold or get raped to death when they price it.???Bad news is that the locksmith didn't speak highly of Cannon safes. He had a higher opinion of my Liberty Centurions. But they aren't tall enough for some of my more authoritative ordinance
Liberty does make taller safes.
Quality vs price vs security liberty is hard to beat.
If you want better security, you're looking into thinks like graffunder, brown etc... but you better be sitting when you ask about price and weight.

Well, after sitting on hold for 40+ minutes, Cannon's answering system took a message and hung up on me. So the message I got was, "We not only don't think enough of you as a customer to have a real person answer the telephone, but just to remove all doubt as to our regard for you as a customer, we're going to program the damned computer to hang up on you." Those telephone answering software packages p!ss me off anyway - without having one tell me to go pound sand.
I got an idea to help Obama with the unemplyment crisis: He should outlaw those telephone answering software packages. THAT ought to generate a few hundred thousand jobs overnight - and corresponding unemployment in the coding sweatshops of Bangladesh.
I could easily make a new barrel rack, but I just hate screwing with stick-on felt. I wonder what's wrong with just using plain old plywood (particle board is too fragile to use that - even though that was the original material) with no felt. Does the wood hold moisture and corrode the barrel; or does the adhesive between the plies have some adverse effect? If not, I sure don't care about asthetics. Any opinions on letting gun barrels rest against bare wood in a safe? It sure was good enough in most of the old-time hardwares and sporting goods stores that used to sell guns when I was a pup - and some of them kept guns on the rack unsold for YEARS.

I've got the barrels against bare, sanded wood. figure if yester-years bluing could hold up to it, today's super high-tech poly-somethingorother should be able to tough it out.dorminWS wrote:. I've got dessicants in the safe I change out often, so the wood shouldn't hold moisture, it should be giving it up to the dessicants.

I figure a safe that will slow down a rogue and require they make enough noise to wake me up (and maybe keep SWMBO out of them till she gets over her mad) is about all I need. ALL my guns won't BE in the safe.
