Gunsafes: recommended local places to buy

Post by wolfhfac »

I need to buy a gunsafe and it will be located on the first floor of a townhouse. I plan to drive down to Clark Bros. to check out their safes but wanted other recommendations for places within an hour's drive from Dulles/Fairfax that sells and delivers gunsafes. I know Costco sells them online and offers free delivery but they will most likely just drop it off at the end of my front walkway. Trying to gather up a couple of co-workers, who are capable to carry a safe into my place is a job in itself  so I may bite the bullet and go with a place that sells and delivers/installs the gunsafe.

Anyone have negative/positive about the pricing of safes at Clark Bros? Any other recommendation?

The safe dimensions I'm looking at would be about the size of Liberty Centurion 22 gun safe or similar size....I think that one weighs 450lbs.

Did you check to see if there is a Liberty Safe dealer close by?. The dealer here in Norfolk delivered mine for free.

I found a dealer near me (8 miles) for Liberty Safes and the installation charge (as stated on Liberty's website) will be $170.

I will go to Clark Brothers and see what they have and inquire about delivery/installation charge but since they are in Warrenton, I assume the delivery/install charge will be more than $170.

Dick's does this. You can slip the guys delivering the safe $20 each and they'll put it where you want it.

If I order a safe from Dicks, what equipment do they have to roll the safe up a front walk (about 25 feet to 30 feet long). Then there is a 6 or 7 inch concrete step to lift it over and once inside the house, they have to drop it down a 6 inch step, going from the vestibule, onto the main floor.

Don't know, but if they're smart, they've got one of those appliance carts with straps to hold the load on and stair-climbers on it. You can probably rent one of those at most any rent-all, by the way.

I'm lucky enough to have friends that just show up and say "Where you want it?" and in 10 minutes, it was done.... Of course, I don't wanna make those friends upset, either, since their arms are in a different zip code they're so big....

The 500 lb safes can be fairly easily managed by three guys, easy to do with 4....

I just purchased a Winchester 24 Gun Safe ( 500 lbs.) from Tractor Supply. Regular price was $699.00 on Sale for $599.00. I also had a 20% off any item coupon. They uncrated it and loaded it in my pickup...I wanted this in my garage so very easy to place and install with just 1 helper. Backed my truck into garage bay and only had to move it about 10'. I used 4 pcs. of 1/4" round bar to roll it on....Could have moved it anywhere. Placed it ...marked the 4 holes...rolled it forward ...drilled holes and replaced. Pretty easy to install. :tommygun:
