Recommendation for Grips on SIG P226
Recommendation for Grips on SIG P226
I have heard alot of good things about Hogue Grips; they also seem to be priced well (about $25). Any pro's or con's to Hogue or any other grips that folks here have used?
This is on my primary carry pistol, so it is important to me to have good feel/grip control; the factory SIG grips are good.

I've got the Hogue grips on my Ruger and they make a world of difference in comfort and control. About the only thing I can think of to say against 'em is since they're relativly soft rubber, they scuff pretty easy.

Depending on the type pistol and Hogue grips they can sometimes be pretty hard to install. Other than that I think they're a great upgrade. Makes a world of difference with grip and recoil management. Try to find someone with something similar so you can check them out in person first.

Re: Recommendation for Grips on SIG P226
I have a set of Hogues on my 226. If you're in the N. Va area, we can meet at the NRA range some time and you can try it out. I like them, I also have a set on my 239. The 239 grips have the finger grooves, the 226 grips do not. Newer grips for the 226 may, I dont recall. I bought my 226 used and it came with the grips.
The only issue I've seen/read with these grips for a CC is the rubber has a tendancy to stick to the clothing, which might get you made. For a CC, I would think harder grips, or nice wood grips would be better, they dont stick to the clothing. But, the rubber grips are great for a range gun.

All,
Thanks for the quick replies/advice...
Shawn - understood on the scuff-issue, but this is wil be the "work-horse" carry for me, so it's gonna look worn no matter what. Good to hear that you have positive experience with the brand.
DK - I'd have the good folks at VAC install them for me (provided that they have the grips in stock - otherwise internet order and then still have VAC install) - they're a good bunch of folks down there, and the SIG was purchased there.
Greg - appreciate the invite to NRA-range (it is about 2miles from house), but I am doing this either today (if VAC has in stock) or ordering online, today. When you mentioned "showing" under CC conditions (because of the rubber) are you referring to a "print" or a "drag" from the rubber meeting clothe? In any manner, if the grips do not work-out for me - I have no issue providing to either you are anyone else - they will have some wear though, as I do plan to put about 500/rds through this test-rotation.
The biggest issue for me with the 226 is that my pinkie finger rests on the mag-lip (large hands) not an uncomfortable shooting grip, just something that I notice. I do not want to move to a larger frame (in the SIG line I believe that the 226 is the largest, or very close to largest frame), and the 226 shoots well for me.
I'll post up a report on how this pans out - again, thanks for the info...

I'm referring to a "drag" from the rubber meeting the clothes. As you move around, the material seems to have a tendancy to drag or catch on the rubber, which can wind up printing. Hasnt happened to me, but I have read this happening to several others. Just something you should be aware of. It may not be a problem for you depending on your holster, how you carry, dress, etc. Looking forward to the report.

Gotcha... I run a Galco Three-Slot at 1600, so everything except the grip is contained in leather. Dress ranges from suit to jeans/khakis in a given week.
... biggest issue for me on "printing" is mother nature and gravity (not to mention take-out and delivery....)

Here's a set of Hogue grips for the P226 - in stock.
Hogue rubber grips for Sig P226

There is another set with finger grooves, but I don't have them in stock right now.

If the lip is your concern, Mec-Gar makes a +2 magazine for the 226 in .40/.357sig that eliminates the lip and holds 14 rounds. That's not as inexpensive as the grips, but it does have the extra rounds.
Re: Recommendation for Grips on SIG P226
WRW - thanks for the tip.
All - VAC didn't have the grips with finger grooves in stock - they could order, etc; same with AIG's site. So I just decided to go shoot and really see how much I needed (i.e. disliked the factory grips from SIG). Well, got to talking to the guys at BRA - and they had finger grips by Hogue in stock (believe it was last package) for $21/at my range discount.
Grabbed a flat-head screw-driver from JEEP and went to work on the SIG while on the range. At first the grip felt "large" well it was larger/wider than the factory issued - so some mental and hand-grip adjustments were in order. Since install to SundayAM I put about 500/rds down-range on the new grips - tightest groupings were 4-off center. I felt better control with double-taps and cadence - full mag shooting; and the groups were all in good center-mass hits. It took a bit more in adjustments on the head-shots (forgot to mention that I use an LE target - full-size BG with weapon, and ski-mask then move to "reveal targets" like "shoot and glo" aftewards for accuracy).
All in all... I am very happy with the grips - this is probably the last "enhancement" to the SIG that I will make; unless I cop a page from wife's book and start "accessorizing"... i.e. additional mags, more ammo selections to feed it, more holsters to nuture it... etc

OK, I got around to looking at your arsenal and see that you have the 9mm. If you do decide to "accessorize" with mags, the extra capacity is available in your size.
