House Democrats said Tuesday they will offer an amendment to push to overturn stand-your-ground self-defense laws in states like Florida.
The amendment, which would withhold some grants from states that have such laws, will come as part of the House's debate on the Commerce Department spending bill.
"'Shoot-first' laws have already cost too many lives. In Florida alone, deaths due to self-defense have tripled since the law was enacted. Federal money shouldn't be spent supporting states with laws that endanger their own people," said Reps. Raul Grijalva of Arizona and Keith Ellison of Minnesota, the two Democrats who are offering the legislation. "This is no different than withholding transportation funds from states that don't enforce seat-belt laws."

We all talk about wanting to get people to stop sucking on the teet of the federal government through handouts. When will our states do the same thing? Withold funds for not having a seatbelt law? No problem! I buckle up because I believe it's the smart thing to do, not because my state or federal government told me I have to. Let people smack through the windshields if they desire.
Was bound to happen,,Dems are not exactly the best in protecting individual rights and given a Soap Box will offer up any POS that will float..Screw them and the horse that the beat to death all the time..

So with a Republican controlled House, this whole thread becomes moot, right? Nothing to see here? Nothing to worry about?

Great googly moogly, I think this is the closest I've ever seen an elected politician come to saying they support violent criminals over law-abiding citizens. Knowing Ellison's background (and his district), I shouldn't be that surprised - Grijalva is probably about the same.
But still - holy crap. It's pretty telling they feel they can say stuff like that openly. Even twenty years ago they'd probably have been lynched, figuratively if not literally.
And a good thing. Shows how out-of-touch the far-left Dems are, to think that they would get a favorable reception from the public for such a crazy idea.

A major proponent of the bill, Rep. Keith Ellison, a Minnesota Democrat, has said he will seek a debate later at a more appropriate time. He went on to say that shootings like those of Trayvon Martin demand action.
Talk about putting the cart before the horse. Zimmerman's trial hasn't even started. How foolish is this person going to be if Zimmerman comes out with a not guilty verdict?

To a person of that mentality an innocent verdict would be irrelevant as, in his view, Zimmerman is guilty. There is no cart, no horse, no cause or effect. White/Black and Skittles is all he understands.

I wonder how much pressure the jury will be under to find Zimmerman guilty - how many reminders of LA Riots are they going to get?
Ellison is obviously a self promoting douche bag with far too much time on his hands to actually do any good work in DC

Typical of these stupid politicians always hacking at the branches and never getting to the root of any problem.
