Shooting skeet - Northern Virginia Gun Club NVGC

Post by allingeneral »

I shot my first round of skeet today. After our gun club meeting (I am now a card carrying member at Northern Virginia Gun Club - NVGC), I noticed three guys headed for the skeet range and wanted to see if I could jump in. The didn't mind at all, so I went back to the truck and got my Mossberg 500 12ga with pistol grip stock (full stock with pistol grip).

I felt a little foolish when they pulled out their browning over/under shotguns. High dollar outfits, they were. Anyway, I went ahead and shot a round with them. I hit approximately 8 out of 25 shots.

It was fun, but clearly I need some practice!

Here are a couple of pictures of the place.

That looks like a lot fun. I have a few friends that are into busting clays, so I might have to give it a try too. But my Mossberg 12ga with the 18" barrel isn't going to cut it for skeet.

My mossberg has an 18" barrel and I had a great time anyway :)

Wait - this sounds like a good excuse to buy another gun :enlighten:

Awful lot of money for shooting skeets. I never thought they tasted very good so I never shot them. :hysterical:

Can't you change your barrel? My 500 can use different length barrels, simple to swap them. Swap to a 26" or 28" barrel with changeable chokes. To keep things equal with the O/U and SxS crowd just load 2 shells.
