Pentagon halts free guns for police, orders audit
Hmmm....
---
From FOXNews
The Defense Department has stopped issuing weapons to thousands of law enforcement agencies until it is satisfied that state officials can account for all the surplus guns, aircraft, Humvees and armored personnel carriers it has given police under a $2.6 billion program, The Associated Press has learned.
The department's Defense Logistics Agency ordered state-appointed coordinators in 49 states to certify the whereabouts of that equipment that has already been distributed through the long-running arrangement overseen by the agency's Law Enforcement Support Office. The temporary halt on transferring weapons applies to all states, agency officials said Thursday.

That might turn out to be as entertaining as "Fast and Furious". We're liable to hear of a bad breakout of gun termites or gun-eating bacteria or something.

Gun-crazy? Me? I'd say the gun-crazy ones are the ones that don’t HAVE one.

A friend worked in law enforcement in a metropolitan police dapartment and told me of the way that confiscated guns were handled at the police station. The way he described it, is that guns that were determined to belong to "no one", after court, etc., were put into a bin that was sitting out unattended somewhere at the station. I suppose that they were to be disposed of in some manner. They weren't sitting out available to the public, but the practice lended itself to some of the guns going missing. Not sure if there was an inventory system in place at this point. He had seen folks digging into the bin looking at various items, as well. (BTW, honorable guy that he is, he ended up looking for another agency to work for.)
So don't worry about some of our LE agencies having enough free hardware. The harvest is plentiful...

we as taxpayers shouldn't be footing the bill for the other freebies they give out like Trick or Treat

Re: Pentagon halts free guns for police, orders audit
Now why do state police departments need humvees and armored personal carriers? I guess phase 2 of the free weapons hand out will be shoulder fire rockets and surface to air missiles because you know they totally need those as well. Looks like i'm going to start saving for a 50 BMG now.

Do you recall that while obama was campaigning last time around he mentioned he wanted a citizens force just as powerful and just as large as the military?

Based on firearm sales after he took office, I think we've surpassed that mark...lizjimbo wrote:Do you recall that while obama was campaigning last time around he mentioned he wanted a citizens force just as powerful and just as large as the military?

The fact remains:
-The UN is still pressing for gun control in this nation.
-Obama is still a threat, AND a second term becomes "no holds barred".
-Congress is an effete paper tiger at this point, unable to pass a budget much less strong protections for gun owners.
-States, and Locals are passing stronger protections for gun owners, and realize the rights inherit to being a "Citizen", but their at the will of "federal money", and are unwilling to part with cash, for what's right.
After they get their "Stasi" style police state? (shrugs) Who knows? Do we organize, and try another "secession", or do we start a guerrilla style campaign, or do we just get "clipped" like dogs, and accept whatever the masters say is "best" for us?
Just sayin'... Just askin', that's all.

An army marches on its stomach, a police state on its pensions. Cut their benefits and pensions (something local government is perfectly capable of doing) and the steroid freaks will find new work.
Of course, ya need to elect people that don't like the idea of living in a police state and can resist the lure of power in managing a fiefdom.

We need to make those political jobs a lot less attractive to losers, crooks, lawyers, and socialist buttholes, cutting penisons and bennies is a great start, then WE need to elect the candidates that will be independent thinkers and have the balls to tell Washington to Get Bent and shove their damn Federal bucks!!! A dream? perhaps, but WE gotta try....
