Michele Bachmann is now a Swiss citizen.

The Minnesota congresswoman and former Republican presidential candidate was recently granted dual citizenship, Bachmann's office confirmed Tuesday night, according to CNN.

"Congresswoman Bachmann's husband is of Swiss descent so she has been eligible for dual-citizenship since they got married in 1978," spokeswoman Becky Rogness said in a statement. "However, recently some of their children wanted to exercise their eligibility for dual-citizenship so they went through the process as a family."

Gotta love a sitting Congressperson being a dual citizen. Think "Passporters" will spring up to demand to see her long-form passport?

Yes; however, this should end her political career. I don't see how she can hold herself up as a patriot who deserves national office if she purposely seeks to divide her loyalty.

I don't see how pursuing her options for her children makes her any less patriotic.

Unless of course my sole interest in every discussion is to protect my Omama money.

Given the possible outcome of the next election I guess I'd be pursuing the same type of option if it was available. We'll see if we're subjected to black panthers in uniform with clubs as democrat poll workers.

While Bachmann says she automatically became a Swiss citizen when she married her husband, Marcus, in 1978, Politico's Tim Mak reports that the marriage was only disclosed to Swiss authorities this year when the couple registered their children for dual citizenship.
