Remington R1?

I'm looking to get a traditional but solid GI-style 1911 to shoot. I'm looking for more a shooter than a collector. The originals are getting expensive now and seem like a lot of money to have as a shooter. The Remington R1 grabbed my eye because it looks to me like a traditional WW1-ish 1911 with a few modern features that might be good as a robust shooter I don't have to worry about in terms of age and collection value. Does anyone here own an R1? What do you think of it?

I've got two, but only because the second was in a "hoss-tradin" deal with another pistol. Decent 1911, but nothing special. I'd rate it as maybe dead average for production 1911s. But it's a matter of taste and personal preference. Try one out. I haven't observed any problems, but I haven't rerally put a lot of rounds through them.

If you want a decent GI style 1911, and have it made in the USA, get the Remington. If you want a decent GI style 1911, and don't care where it's made, get an RIA 1911. There are a couple of vendors at the various gun shows who sell the RIA for around $400.
