open carry in Chesterfield, VA WalMart

Post by M1A4ME »

I was in the WalMart on Rt. 10 a couple of days ago looking through the sporting goods section for some spinner bait skirts when I saw a guy walk through open carrying a single action revolver in a holster hanging off his right hip. He had some sort of leather "box" on the belt just in front of the revolver/holster that I figured must have extra rounds in it.

I've never seen anyone open carry a single action revolver before. Then again, I've never seen anyone open carry in Walmart before.

Sounds like a speed loader to me. I've see more than a few people OCing in the walmart off hullstreet near the dump.

speed loader or dump pouch. If it was slim and had the snap on the front it could have been a dump pouch. What you would do is stack 5 extra rounds horizontally in the pouch then snap it up. When you needed to get to them you unsnap and the container piece with the rounds folds down and dumps the rounds in your hand. If it was thick I would say a speed loader case

The only single actions I've ever owned (Rugers and Colts) can't use a speed loader like a double action revolver because the cylinder doesn't "flip out" to allow ejection and loading of all the chambers at once. The loading gate on the right side of the frame has to be opened, the cylinder aligned correctly for the ejector rod to go down in the chamber/fired brass and push the fired brass out of the chamber. You repeat that for each fired round and then load a new round into each chamber of the cylinder using that same loading gate.

A speed strip might work for reloading a single action revolver faster.

O I didn't see the single action part. Well who knows what it was. If you see him again I guess you can ask and of course thank him!

Can the breaktop S&W clones use speedloaders? If I were to carry a single action revolver for self-defense, that's probably what I'd want. Much faster to reload in any event.
