I recently went to the movie theatre at Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights (south of Richmond). I carried concealed. I looked for signs prohibiting guns as we entered the mall, but did not see one at the entrance that we entered by. On the way out, in a kind-of courtyard outside the theatre, they had a sign noting the conduct that was expected outside, and inside, the theatre. It did start off like a "school rules" sign. I read it on the way out and it was a long, looooooonnnng read for something that you're supposed to glance at on your way in/out. It was something that you need to stop and take 5 minutes to read. Most of the stuff was along the lines of no cussing, no rough-housing, conduct yourself as a good citizen, no yelling, etc...
A typical sign restricting guns has the red circle/slash somewhere. This code of conduct sign had a statement, way down on the list, like number 10 or 12, that only weapons carried by police during their official duties were allowed.
I appreciate the fact that the mall wants to foster good behavior (particularly among the younger patrons, who I thought the sign was targeted to). If I were going into the mall at that entrance, I may have scanned the sign briefly, but I probably wouldn't have stopped to read this lengthy sign in its entirety. Who stops to do that? No cussin', no horseplay, yada, yada... I wouldn't have gotten all the way through it on the way in.
What is the real expectation of someone legally carrying there? The place did have a sign, but the message was buried in an overwhelming list of other rules.
I'll probably continue to carry there, concealed, entering by the non-posted entrances. The message is inconsistent. ...and concealed is concealed.
Thoughts?

You said it right there at the end: concealed is concealed.
Carry on.
Carry on.

If it's not an obvious sign like they have at Jarrod's (I don't shop there anymore) then they can kiss my behind. That said, concealed is concealed! I don't advertise I'm carrying, you shouldn't either.
