Voting in Virginia - trying to NOT become Chicago.

Post by KaosDad »

Keeping Virginians from voting
FOR DECADES Virginia has allowed residents who lack proof of identification or whose IDs have been lost or stolen to vote, provided they are listed in the voting rolls and sign sworn statements attesting to their identities. Now, in response to no known problem, Republicans are backing a change already approved by the House of Delegates that would allow such citizens to cast only provisional ballots, which would be counted only if their identities were subsequently verified with IDs. Given that 11 percent of voting-age citizens nationally lack photo IDs, that would place unmanageable burdens on thousands of would-be voters in the commonwealth.
It goes on;
The percentage of voting-age citizens lacking IDs was significantly higher among African Americans (25 percent); among people aged 65 or older (18 percent); and among low-income Americans (15 percent).
Currently, the Commonwealth accepts seventeen (17) forms of ID including:
* Virginia voter registration card
* Social Security card
* Virginia driver's license
* Any other identification card issued by a government agency of the Commonwealth, one of its political subdivisions, or the United States
* Employee identification card containing a photograph

Note: a photo ID is NOT required. So, are we to understand that 58% of the voting population is incapable of or unwilling to keep track of just ONE form of ID???? Dunno - perhaps they shouldn't be allowed to vote.

By the way, the esteemed Chicago Tribune chimed in with this quote;
The administration of President Barack Obama in December blocked South Carolina's new law requiring voters to have photo identification, citing concerns it would hurt minorities' ability to cast a ballot.

. . .

Democratic Delegate Jennifer McClellan argued during the House debate on Wednesday that the legislation would cause heartache for many residents.

"You need to understand that for many Virginians, these scars are still festering, and it doesn't take much to open them up and make them bleed," she said.
The esteemed Delegate is referring to the fact that Virginia, is one of 9 states required to seek federal “pre-clearance” on voting changes under the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

God Forbid we hold the citizenry accountable & responsible.

The way I see it, anyone who attempts to vote without ID is a potential fraudulent vote. As far as Virginia goes, that they don't have a voter ID card (issued when you register to vote) means they had one and just couldn't be bothered to keep up with it. Bet they can keep up with their debit and credit cards, and for that matter, you can't buy groceries most places without paying premium prices without a card from the frealin' store. The proposition that people who can't/won't procure and produce valid ID to vote are somehow injured by not being allowed to is laughable. What the liberal democrats are really saying, if you strip away the BS, is "we need to clear the way for ACORN and its ilk to steal ANOTHER election. For that matter, everybody in our small town knows me, but I don't remember ever voting (and I have NEVER missed a chance to vote) without being asked for ID. It never offended me.

Hell all they have to do is ask for the EBT Card as ID. Hold on a minute don't you have to show ID to get the EBT card and then when you make a purchase with the EBT? Just Saying :whistle:

How to Register for an EBT Card

Acceptable proof of identity includes a driver's license, state-issued identification card, government or military ID, naturalization certificate or a U.S. passport.

Acceptable proof of residency includes your mortgage statement, utility bills, rental lease agreement, bank statements and/or your income tax information.

The idea any functional adult has no form of photo ID is comically out of touch with reality.

SC also had a provision in that law mandating any adult can receive a free photo ID from the SC DMV....still not good enough for the DOJ. :roll:

So, you have to show ID in order to buy a gun, rent a car, get on an airplane, buy a beer, buy cold medicine, get a hotel room, or open a bank account; and several of those are mandated by law. But to tinker with the machinery of government, that leviathan that has the ability and predilection to wreck and end lives on an industrial scale, to meddle with it and set its course in however infinitesimal a way, requires no more than your word, if that.

I don't know whether to laugh or weep.

So white folks don't count according to them it seems ? Must be they figure they all have ID;s or the so called politcians who "work" for the good of all are full of $hit, maybe?

Yup I would say given the choice that;s the case for sure,, And the last 4 years have certainly given us plenty of " Shovel Ready" ideology from these idjuts to back that up.

Soon it will be Black Panthers in uniform with nightsticks making sure you don't have an ID at the polls.

Nope , but I myself would not allow them,, If an adult can't get and hold onto a picture ID that they can get at the DMV and other types they can sit out the voting.Too easy to get a utility or a phone,,bill from anyone and use it ..If the ones in question don;t want to be and act like adults then that's just Tough $hit for them..

You have to put up a deposit to have a utility bill. I hear tell that a lot of low-income folks, many of them minorities, don't get water and lights turned on in their own name because either they're aliens, fugitives, or have bad credit. Shame on us for making it hard for folks like that to vote for bigger dole checks.
