Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia
Re: Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia
the text inside the graphic logo isn't meant to be readable. I used it because it's a very common graphic. The rest of the card makes the message.
No recent DUI is still a criteria. and likewise historical use of drugs or incarceration. That's why I said "no" as opposed to "never". Like previous posters I don't think the "legally incompetent" means anything to the card recipient.

Jake,
I think that you have done a good job with your card. I have only one suggestion. The bullet that states "Have a level of firearms training". I think that I would shorten it to just say "Have completed firearms training". When you state "a level", it implies that there are multiple levels of training (which of course there are), but how many levels are there? The answer to that is subjective to who is doing the training, how much training the individual wishes to take, etc.
Other than that, GREAT JOB!
Disclaimer: This post represents only my two cents worth, and with the economy the way it is today, that ain't worth much!

Add Variety wholesalers to the unfriendly list.
They own Roses, Maxway, Super dollar, Super 10, Value Mart, Bargain Town, Bills dollar store, and Treasure mart. Mostly Va and NC looks like. Big sign near the door stating NO concealed weapons.

Only concealed weapons? That implies that open carry is fine...sigster wrote:Add Variety wholesalers to the unfriendly list.

I took the gun in the red circle with the slash across it to mean no handguns and the text under that to include concealed as well. I will try to clarify that next time I'm over that way.
Re: Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia
After a little searching, VCDL.org already has maxway stores on their unfriendly list. They are owned by Variety Wholesalers.

BB&T branch on Rt1 between the Wells Fargo and the lighting supply place. Sticker posted on the front door. The ubiquitous Baretta with the slash over it. Luckily I was only there to make my final payment for my car loan. Thankfully I won't be back.
Re: Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia
I have heard somewhere, that a "No Firearms" sign must be posted on EVERY entrance not just one door. for example i go to spotsy mall all the time, i have never not once seen a sign that says no firearms

Spotsy Mall has a sign that says something to the effect of "No illegal firearms". So, you can carry there, however, they don't like OC, so carry CC only or you will likely be asked to leave.Dingir wrote:I have heard somewhere, that a "No Firearms" sign must be posted on EVERY entrance not just one door. for example i go to spotsy mall all the time, i have never not once seen a sign that says no firearms

Well now that is an interesting point. I have never seen a "no xd" sign. Just the "no baretta" signs. I will assume they do not pertain to me haha.

CHUCK E. CHEESE IS OFF THE LIST!
Big ole' sign at the one on Midlothian that says "NO FIREARMS ALLOWED! YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED AS A TRESPASSER!"
Last time the kids go there! I'll send some e-mails, but if you have kids? We gotta find alternatives.

Only problem with this is the loophole of free memberships. If a grocery store decided to, they could just tell everyone at checkout that they need to sign up for free 'membership.' Heck, a lot of people already do the 'rewards' programs with the savings cards.alby wrote:So for instance, a grocery store which sells goods to everybody would be have to abide by the law in allowingMoccasin wrote:Should we infringe on one's rights in order to protect someone elses?
CHP holders to carry on their premise. Yet if that same grocery store restricted sales to members only, then
CHP holders could be barred from the premise. Overall, the point I'm getting at is that such an arrangement
would force businesses to choose between allowing CHP holders free reign of their establishment so long as
they cater to the general public. If they wish to block CHP holders, they would have to restrict general public
access to a more controlled Member's Only access. Thus in effect restricting their market and potential
profits in exchange for restricting CHP holders.--
That is what happened in TX with the "private clubs" allowed to serve alcohol in a dry county. Everybody was offered a free membership card. Originally I think it was $5 for a Uni-Card or something similar, but eventually the cost was negated.
Point is, "Giant Harris Teeter World Market Food, Inc" wouldn't lose a dime. The Malls on the other hand, that is something to think about.

There's talk on oc.org about Waffle House having a new corporate policy prohibiting firearms. Well, I just got back from my local Waffle House in Stephens City, VA. They are posted but not properly. Instead of posting the signage required by State they have a yellow all inclusive sign prohibiting, alcohol, firearms, loitering, and the storing of vehicles.

I was unaware that there was specific signage required by Virginia. I believe the proprietor is not actually required to post signage, but can simply ask you to leave, regardless of posting.

As far as I can find the law states:
The granting of a concealed handgun permit shall not thereby authorize the possession of any handgun or other weapon on property or in places where such possession is otherwise prohibited by law or is prohibited by the owner of private property.
There's nothing about any standards whatsoever. Please reference the code where it is required. That would be very useful.

Re: Firearm Unfriendly Businesses in Virginia
VA code section 18.2-308 does not state anything about" there must be a NOTICABLE sign on EVERY entrance not just one."
There is no regulations on HOW the signs must be displayed in Virginia.

I digging but cant seem to find anything, there has to be some sort of guidelines for a "firearms prohibited" sign, otherwise they could and probably would be in spanish, and that s--- wont fly with me.NewColonial wrote:VA code section 18.2-308 does not state anything about" there must be a NOTICABLE sign on EVERY entrance not just one."
