York County is looking at changing their ordinances to ban discharge
of firearms and air guns in some more subdivisions:
Winterfield
Lakes at Dare
Wythe Creek Farms
Sherwood Forest [doesn't affect bows and arrows, so Robin Hood is
OK
Carriage Homes at Williamsburg Commons
Discharge of air guns, and not firearms, would be banned at Overlook
Point.
The County is also considering a ban on discharge of rifles
countywide, except for firing ranges and target ranges, police, self-
defense, managed hunts to control deer, and to kill dangerous or
destructive wild animals. The rifles that are affected are .22s, as
they are the only caliber that can be discharged in the County under
current ordinances.
It's not clear when this issue will come up for a vote, but those of
you in York County should contact your supervisor NOW and urge them
not to further restrict the discharge of rifles.
