Virginia to discontinue State Background checks?

I'm not really following this line of thought. The feds already can shut down gun transfers via the FFL system at any time; the only ways around it are to be a licensee yourself or to be in a permanent Brady state where firearm permits bypass the check. Virginia is at the mercy of both the feds and the staties, so we have two choke points instead of one.

Either never buy guns from FFLs, or work to change the law - those are the only solutions.

Well here is one thing the state of Virginia does a heck of alot better and faster than NICS. If you get denied or have to appeal a denial the state of Virginia can usually get it fixed for you in less than 5 days from talking to you on the phone, NICS has a waiting period/backup period of over 144 days before they will even get to your appeal. Sure you can say i dont get denied but let's say your brother/cousin/neighbor uses your name-sex-race-dob when he gets arrested and has a felony conviction well with NICS its a 3 month wait with Virginia its less than 5 days.
