Yeah, my young-un living down there said Richmond carried it. The DC stations told me nothing in spite of several hours of solid air time with no break even for the weather, and a web search gave little satisfaction.

Trooper shot on I-95 in Caroline County. Early reports say that he is recovering in the hospital. Two officers shot in the same day is spooky to say the least.

Especially considering that, in seemingly unrelated incidents, both were shot by someone who didn't appear to be under arrest for anything. Truly bizarre.

147 and still counting.... sadly. Rest in peace brethren

Also in NC. Moore county deputy Rick Rhyne. 37 year vet shot and killed yesterday.
While questioning two brothers he learned that one of them had a warrant for outstanding child support. As he attempted to place the man under arrest the man fatally shot him with a handgun. The suspect then committed suicide.

This was probably just a traffic stop gone bad instead of a premeditated attack like four years ago. That will be little comfort to anyone on campus, especially the families of the two victims.
Latest reports are that the gunman was not part of the traffic stop, that he just walked up and shot. So it might well have been premeditated.
I keep getting the stinking feeling that this may have been a personal issue. Of course Blacksburg is only 20 minutes up the road, but the kid lived and went to school in Radford. Why would he steal a car and drive all the way up there just to shoot a random cop then kill himself?
Never initiate force against another. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.KYFHO

I've been wondering the same thing. He also saw fit to change clothes before killing himself. This is a rather strange case. Being that the answers to our questions seem to only be known by a dead man, this will likely remain a mystery.
