1. VCU Protest Information
***************************************************
The VCDL Operation Campus Safety protest at VCU in Richmond is THIS Thursday, December 1st!
The events will be held at the VCU Commons Plaza from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM
The VCU Commons is on the Monroe Park Campus at 907 Floyd Ave, Richmond, VA 23284. The event will be held in the courtyard on the Southwest side of the building, right in front of the Ram's Horns statue.
We have speakers scheduled to address the attendees starting at 12 noon.
Thanks to Students for Concealed Carry on Campus at VCU and the group's President, John Allen, for sponsoring the event and making the arrangements for the Commons Plaza and for the sound equipment.
I made a courtesy call and spoke with the VCU Chief of Police, John A. Venuti. He was pleasant and professional and I told him about our organization and we exchanged cell phone numbers for use during the event. He is also coordinating with the Richmond Police Department.
IMPORTANT NOTES
VCU has a regulation in place banning carry in their buildings. Consequently if you decide to carry at the event, you can open carry without a CHP or conceal carry with a CHP, but NO ONE WHO IS ARMED CAN ENTER ANY OF THEIR BUILDINGS. So, if you need to get food or use the restroom, you will have to do so either before or after the event, or walk to a business off-campus.
The antis WILL be there. Their latest tactic is to get our side in an animated debate with some of their members and to record and then edit the video to suit their objectives. They are getting more and more desperate to stop VCDL's forward movement, so they are trying to find things to discredit us. My suggestion to those attending is to not get suckered into their propaganda efforts and to just ignore them. You are not going to convince them you are right and they are not going to convince you that they are right. Our job is to talk to students, faculty, and staff and give them the VCDL "No guns? No FUNDS!" brochures and stickers. Enough said.
PARKING
There is free 2-hour parking along Main St, as well as free parking along Cary St, but both are usually packed on school days. 801 W. Main St. is the nearest parking deck (diagonally across the street).
--
I'm looking forward to this event. The press should be there, too. If you can come to the protest, please do so! They are fun and achieve a very important goal that will dovetail with our legislative agenda.

2. Why we are having our rally - another attack at VCU
***************************************************
From an alert to students, faculty, and staff by the VCU Police forwarded by the husband of a VCU student:
In compliance with the provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1988, Virginia Commonwealth University is giving notice of a robbery. VCU Police report that a suspect approached a female student on the south alley of the Bowe Street deck on campus at approximately 7:18 p.m. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5'10" tall, wearing a black hoodie with silver writing and black sweat pants. The suspect also spo.ke with an accent. It is reported that the suspect was in possession of a hammer and approached the victim but hit her with his fist. The victim refused medical treatment and there was no serious injury. The suspect was last seen leaving in the direction of the Siegel Center in the alley with the victim's wallet. VCU and Richmond Police have increased patrols in the area. Students are asked to be aware of their surroundings, report suspicious activity to police and use the campus escort service

3. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) wants to interview Virginia gun owners
***************************************************
Christina Wilby with the BBC contacted me. Christina sent me this:
"...we're developing a series called Coming Here Soon for BBC3 in the UK, which is a presenter-fronted series that looks at what life is like for teenagers living in the US. The aim is to look at different aspects of young people's lives in America to give an insight into similarities and differences with life for young people in the UK, in particular looking at topics that are especially relevant to our audience. One area that we've highlighted is girls and young women carrying guns on campus and the better understanding of the place of guns in young lives for protection and hunting in the US. We would like to speak with young women who are pro-gun and feel that learning how to use a gun is a valid part of everyday life skills. I was wondering if you knew of any such girls and anyone who is campaigning for more Guns to be carried by women in the US on campus."
In a followup email, Christina wrote:
"I have just spoken to my Producer and if there is anyone who carries concealed in general but not on campus especially females who are going to the protest [at Radford - December 8th - see alert later tonight] that would be fine as well. Also if there are students who want to talk to me and carry concealed but not on campus that is fine as well. Basically any students who carried concealed even if not on campus."
If you are going to be at the Radford protest on Wednesday, December 8th, and want to be interviewed, let me know and I will pass on your information to Christina.

In light of the ban in buildings, is this considered a building?OakRidgeStars wrote:801 W. Main St. is the nearest parking deck (diagonally across the street).

As I understand it, the parking garages are not considered to be buildings.
