You're on to something I think, over the last few years there's has been an increasing militarization of our "civilian" law enforcement/government.

Cops used to arrest you on a warrant while you were leaving your house or job...now they roll up in an APC to your house at 2AM, and the armored beetles scurry out and spray bullets all over the place.

SAM turrets near (on?) the WH in the immediate future really wouldn't surprise me. The thing is already damned near indestructible, so, why bother if not as a show of force?

You know Kruetz, you and I disagree with each other a fair amount. But you have got a point here. There is a very serious issue here (the increasingly scary tactics of the police for what used to be routine arrests). Holy Cow something we agree on!

As for the white house--precious little would surprise me anymore. Could be a security center, could be SAM's, maybe they are putting in a new swimming pool for the Obama family to go for a swim. Who knows.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Jose Guerena Ortiz was sleeping after an exhausting 12-hour night shift at a copper mine. His wife, Vanessa, had begun breakfast. Their 4-year-old son, Joel, asked to watch cartoons.

An ordinary morning was unfolding in the middle-class Tucson neighborhood — until an armored vehicle pulled into the family's driveway and men wearing heavy body armor and helmets climbed out, weapons ready.

They were a sheriff's department SWAT team who had come to execute a search warrant. But Vanessa Guerena insisted she had no idea, when she heard a "boom" and saw a dark-suited man pass by a window, that it was police outside her home. She shook her husband awake and told him someone was firing a gun outside.

A U.S. Marine veteran of the Iraq war, he was only trying to defend his family, she said, when he grabbed his own gun — an AR-15 assault rifle.

What happened next was captured on video after a member of the SWAT team activated a helmet-mounted camera.

The officers — four of whom carried .40-caliber handguns while another had an AR-15 — moved to the door, briefly sounding a siren, then shouting "Police!" in English and Spanish. With a thrust of a battering ram, they broke the door open. Eight seconds passed before they opened fire into the house.

And 10 seconds later, Guerena lay dying in a hallway 20-feet from the front door. The SWAT team fired 71 rounds, riddling his body 22 times, while his wife and child cowered in a closet.
of course, the warrant had to do with alleged drug selling.

Yep read about that one. Terrifying. Absolutely terrifying. What is worse is that if I am not mistaken the police were found to have taken "appropriate actions." Those are only appropriate actions if you are storming a known Zeta warehouse, or a terrorist safe haven, not a civilian domicile on a rather routine drug warrant. They did not even find any drugs on the property. GRRRRRR! How do we stop BS like that? A family torn to shreds and a man lost his life because they wanted to Rambo-up and play soldier. Makes me so very very angry.

Kreutz, and I are like stopped clocks, about twice a day we agree.

I concur with the militarization of the law enforcement agencies. They seem to need to justify the purchases of these items by using them excessively. I also think that waiting for David Koresh, Randy Weaver, and a few others to come to town, and quietly have LOCAL cops that KNEW them ask them to come with them for questioning would have prevented quite a few deaths.

Well, Kreutz ain't a bad feller, for a yankee. (I've decided to promote him from damnyankee to yankee) But I'd like to refine the stopped clock similie from my perspective: He's more like that stopped wristwatch with a little window that tells the day of the week and day of the month: half-right once a week and all the way right on rare occasion. Just kiddin', Kreutz - - sorta.

Now, back to the Grand Speculation: I figure it's most likely to be an auxilliary sewage treatment plant. Goodness knows that crew are all full of it; and I reckon they're overloading the facilities.

Maybe it is a big bathtub. I seem to remember Queen Cleopatra was rumored to have bathed in donkey's milk to keep her skin beautiful. Perhaps they are having baptismal services there and requiring their hires to swear their alliance to the democrat party by donkey's milk baths. Just kidding of course. My late pregnancy hormones are warping my sense of humor dramatically. My poor poor husband has to put up with me.

Whatever it is that they are building we will NEVER EVER get a straight story on it. I remember living close to a base and hearing huge BOOMS from time to time that would even shake the house--you knew if it came from the military base that you would never get an answer to what nearly knocked you over that AM.

Its more terrifying when you stop to remember the frequency these dudes get the wrong house.
What is worse is that if I am not mistaken the police were found to have taken "appropriate actions." .
They get to decide whether their own actions are appropriate....sounds like a police state to me.

When Barney Fife is routinely tossing back grenades while manning a crew served machine gun to deter actual cartel members (as Mexican soldiers have had to do) from beheading half of Mayberry I would concede this force build up is warranted, until then it looks like they want to keep an iron heel on our necks.

Might be on to something there. Who needs a SAM when you can simply hope an ICBM lands in the deepest pool of **** this side of Pakistan?
