Its a shame when yuppie clowns get more attention than an age old tradition on this country.. But then again it's not uncommon now as it once was ,,, An example is where I grew up...When I grew up there ,everyone had guns and it was nothing to see someone outdoors walking with or using one,, Now because of that same group of folks and the destrction of the hunting land you wouldn;t dare walk down the street with one without getting the law called on ya..And the worst part is they'd come and hassle the crap out of ya for doing nothing wrong...sad indeed

It reminds me of my days as a teacher you get your students trained in how the class runs and then you get a new kid in, and the new kid understands what is expected of him, but instead chooses to at every turn try to get away with something so you are stuck in classroom management role and can't move on to more important things like math and reading. So everyone suffers.

Maybe if the urbanites stayed in their cozy little condos within city limits they wouldn't have to worry about being skeered by us backwards, inbred, slow-talking country folk - just doing what we've been doing for over 400 years...

But no, they want to build their big houses on postage-stamp parcels surrounded by other big houses on postage-stamp parcels with private lanes and security gates and send their kids to the same schools as ours instead of the city schools while clogging our roads with their imported German estate cars commuting hours each way so that they can live out in the country with us and work in the "big city" like hotshots.

Like Reese Witherspoon said in 'Sweet Home Alabama': "People need a passport to come down here."

We should institute such a policy and keep the damn yuppie yankee interlopers from invading our quiet little towns and turning them into yankee corporatist hegemonies.

I'm a city dweller but I don't leave city limits and tell anyone else how to live, I actually find it comforting to hear Gun Fire, because its a sound of an American exercising his rights.

This is bad policy for a few reasons. Chiefly, hunters contribute a good bit of dough to the various wildlife and environmental departments. The seasons in most states are also very short form what I've seen.

This may be my suburban sensibilities talking, but most people (including me) have never hunted, so know little or nothing about it. And like it or not, people are going to keep migrating less populated areas and there will be friction.

I would have had a knee jerk action to oppose hunting public lands, but other people educated me to the contributions hunters make, so now I would support that. What I'm trying to say is instead of demonizing the "newcomers", why don't you talk to them, and maybe try and take them along? Most of the opposition to hunting is coming form ignorance, again, most of us have just never hunted. Its really no different than trying to enlighten someone who is misinformed or ignorant of the facts behind gun safety; can't blame people for believing something they've been told their whole lives, its not their fault.

The problem is, ignorance is a very dangerous thing, because a lot of people tend to shut out things from the opposing side. This results in people, who are uneducated in hunting and sporting, to contact their legislature and their local government and this ends in laws and regulations that only benefit them. Are you aware that the Anti-Gun crowd actually hates anyone who owns a Gun? A lot of people are either terrified of Gun owners or they outright hate them. I have came across two people in a weeks period who did not know anything about Gun laws and wondered why I was allowed to openly carry a Pistol. Ignorance is deadly.

Target practice? They'd just sXXt or go blind if someone was setting off trip flares, artillery simulators, star clusters, etc. for fun and to show the folks at home all that neat stuff the military gets to play with.

I can remember my father in law walking out the back door with his deer rifle one night and then hearing it go BOOM!!, BOOM!!, BOOM!!. I walked out the back door to see what he was doing and he was standing there with that Rem. 742 running my 30.06 tracers through it and watching them "fly" out across the ridge into the wilderness between his house and the next little town. I asked him why he was shooting up my tracers and he said, "You know I just love to them things light up as they go over that ridge." I sure do miss him sometimes. I can't hardly shoot a rifle or pistol without thinking about all the good times we had shooting around home.

I have a relative that married a big city guy, he is doing everything he can do to get changes to our rural location, he lives in one of those communities, the only one that exist in our rural area, with small plots, there is one other, but community flopped, they built way farther up mountains, however only sold 1 home, & it was back land, no road frontage with only a right of way to get to the community, anyway they own the plots on both sides, its stupid community totally rural, in middle of no-where, & yet has the ultra-expensive fancy homes, with all the restrictions, & he wants change, he is from California, & on many occasions I have told him he needs to go back there & get the hell out of VA, or at least our rural area, he wants to bring stuff here & I told him the answer is to go there. he is totally antigun.

Yeah, but the true anti-gun crowd are a small group of zealots; I'm talking about reaching out to the great mass of people in the middle who have been fed lies by the anti-gun crowd.

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!

Once past city limits, and "Suburgatory"? You have to own at a MINIMUM 5 Acre plot, and it's zoned as a "farm".

Subdivisions? Would require a GUN RANGE AT THEIR CLUBHOUSE! And no more than 40 houses to a group! (That's 200 acres for those paying attention)

No security fences, or guards. Each house is assigned a "Neighborhood Patrol" night, and you are part of a team that WALKS, not DRIVES around, ARMED!

I camp with former "Urbanites" (New Yorkers, none the less!) Have we converted them? Yep! They're buying camo, camping equipment, and guns. HOWEVER! They do it all with a grain of salt. (shrugs) I can like you, I can show you how to shoot, I can teach you how to live off the land, but if we "rednecks" will always be a "joke" to you? What's the point?
