Looking for somebody to do blueing - I guess.

Post by dorminWS »

I've got a Kahr Auto Odinace Thompson Model: T1 (1923A-1), .45 ACP (semi-auto "Tommygun"). It came with a 30-round stick mag and I ordered a 50-round drum. The front of the drum keeps rusting. I oil it and it forms a light coat of fine rust anyway. The gun doesn't rust, and none of the other 25 or so guns in the safe rust. Just the dang drum. So I assume it is some defect in the finish of the steel in the drum (I HOPE it ain't a defect in the steel), and I need to get the drum re-blued. Anybody know who (preferably in the western half of the state) does a good job of that?

Western? Ashland? Not hardly. But I do have to be in Richmond sometime in November, I think. Who is this feller in Ashland?

I know who Palladin will refer you to in Ashland. Good guy and he's been in the biz for years. Worth the drive.

Actually, I just picked up 3 items he blued for me. They were rusty and now they look good

blueing is a lot of work!!!!.been there!!!.to take off old and add new is tricky.after the old is off.you need to dry off good, then put on rubber gloves, start to brush or add blue.go 30 to 40 sec,s then rince off with water, used brillow pad, rince off dry,add blue over and over tell you like the way it looks to you.no more then 30 to 39 sec,s or no less then 20 sec,s or less of time or to long of time is bad.all in al take it to a gun Dr,they will do it right, take a old part frist try to work on that to see how to do it.get good then start on your gun ok. good luck

Picked up my magazine on Jan 25th. They did an excellent job and the price was more than reasonable. Really nice folks. Also, I had a talk with him about a Remington SP-10 I've had a problem with, and he knew exactly what I was talking about immediately and told me what was wrong with the gun. What's more, he had a prt to fix it with right on the bench. Ashland Firearms Services is a top-flight outfit, in my book. I don't remember who made the referral, but thanks.
