Stripper clips and AK mags
I just bought some more AK magazines and some surplus ammo in stripper clips. Can someone recommend a gadget that lets me use these on AK mags? And I have some 5.56 ammo in stripper clips as well. Is there something similar for AR mags, and will they work with Magpul PMAGS or will I have to use GI mags?

I'm not aware of any gizmo that will allow you to load stripper clip ammo directly into an AK magazine.
I do seem to remember a gizmo for AR mags, but I can't recall the specifics. You might want to check with the folks that make the LULA magazine speed loaders.

Well, first you need to make sure the clips actually work. Most of what's coming in from China right now is pure junk. They won't hold the rounds, they flop all over. The only good ones I've found are these. Once you have good clips, the loader is another headache. All that I know of right now are ones like these. They're Chinese and they're crap. However, with the application of pliers and a lot of elbow grease, they can be made to work. However they will only work on steel mags, the polymers are too thick (unless you want to do some cutting and welding).jrswanson1 wrote: Can someone recommend a gadget that lets me use these on AK mags?
Unless you meant 5.45 clips and loaders, which are around. The 5.45 mags were designed to accomodate a spoon type loader. Check K-Var, they've got them.
The Lula folks make a StripLula, I think they call it, as well as a large apparatus designed to be mounted to a bench to load large numbers of mags quickly. And I have some 5.56 ammo in stripper clips as well. You can get GI spoon-type loaders on the internet, or at most gun shows. I have no idea whether they work on the plastic mags.

I have Russian ammo in stripper clips, so I think I'm set on that. I found that clip guide yesterday, I've heard good and bad about it. It's cheap enough that I'll try it anyway. I wish LULA would make a stripLULA for the AK, but I don't make those decisions. Thanks for the pointers, I'll try them and report back to the board.Diomed wrote:Well, first you need to make sure the clips actually work. Most of what's coming in from China right now is pure junk. I sent them an email asking them to look into it, didn't even get a form letter acknowledgement.jrswanson1 wrote:I wish LULA would make a stripLULA for the AK, but I don't make those decisions.
