Re: Hatfields Gunsmith
Redhorse's opinion obviously is driven by something other than Hatfields' gunsmithing work, which most have found to be superior in all respects but wait time--but you certainly don't want a good gun worked on by a gunsmith so lacking in work that turnaround isn't a problem, and you don't want your ...

Re: Revolver action job
Sam Hatfield in Manassas did a phenomenal job on a friend's J-Frame after similar work on a couple of my N-framed S&Ws.

Re: Gunsmith for .45?
I take all my stuff to Hatfield's. Their work is terrific. Sterling Arsenal's may well be, too; I just don't want to drive that far out from where I am. I would not want to take a good gun to a gunsmith who has a fast turnaround on significant work. There's an obvious reason that comes to mind as to...

Re: Sharpshooters in Lorton
I shoot there more than at the other 2 ranges I belong to. The staff is terrific. "Grossly overpriced" is your usual internet forum hyperbole. They're a bit higher than some other places on some items, and a bit lower on others.

Re: BAD EXPERIENCE AT BLUE RIDGE ARSENAL
I'm going to be the odd man out here. I've only been a member up there for three months but have shot there a lot. I've also spent more than a little time window shopping guns and have invariably found the staff polite, knowledgeable, responsive, and helpful. Sure, every business is bound to have a ...

Re: Hatfields Gunsmith
I've gotten a revolver rebuild, revolver trigger job, and 1911 "tuneup" back from Sam in the past couple of weeks. Each was perfect (as usual). A couple of others who took guns in on my recommendation report the same high level of satisfaction.

New Gun Shop in Woodbridge
(I don't see this as having been posted already, so here goes.) Someone (the new store's owner, I suspect) was passing out flyers at the Dale City gun show this morning for C&G Guns, 1549 Old Bridge Road, Woodbridge. Phone is 703-864-6618. Their website (which I haven't checked yet) is www.camer...

Re: D.C. grabs guns from soldier
Why won't they give the soldier his property back? Hell, give them to him outside of DC (i.e., ship to his state of residence and have him do a 4473 to reacquire them, if they want), but they should be returned. I suspect DC has categorized them as contraband, which by definition gets confiscated r...

Re: Took my 1911 down to parade rest today...
Sam Hatfield (Hatfield's Gunsmithing in Manassas) puts on a terrific basic gunsmithing course a couple times a year. You detail strip and reassemble your 1911 several times during the day. More significantly, you learn tricks of the trade including pitfalls of commonly-accepted ways people who disda...

"Do it Yourself" Legal Instruments?
I'm an attorney licensed in a state other than VA. I wouldn't dream of creating my own Gun Trust. The downside risks override the curious value some place on bragging rights about saving a ton of money with a pre-prepared legal form. I'm looking some suppressors some short-barreled weapons @ $1000 a...

Can't remember, usually higher, and yes (but some brands may not participate, e.g., Kimber at PXs).

Re: Optometrists who prescribe shooting glasses
The optometrist at http://advanced-eye.com/index.html near Mt Vernon hospital is a shooter. I use progressives; he made me a pair with no close prescription...just the distance and middle corrections. Yellow. Works nice. Don't have to tilt my head back to focus on the front sight. Thanks-will head ...

Re: Hatfield's Gunsmith in Manassas
I'm not sure what agenda those who resort to negative soundbytes without substance are working, but my experiences with Hatfield's continue to be superior, as well. Most recently, they made my Ruger SP-101 357 mag revolver into a work of art, beautifully improved the marginally acceptable headspace ...

Optometrists who prescribe shooting glasses
My computer glasses are increasingly inadequate to the task. I've found that hit-and-miss selection of optometrists who can do shooting prescriptions isn't the way to go. ((So far, I've gotten, "just tilt your head back with your progressive bifocals" and "just get your lenses tinted ...

Re: Hatfield's Gunsmith in Manassas
Well, crap. Before I posted my favorable review yesterday I did a search for "Hatfield's" and nothing relevant showed up. Now I see that this thread has been here for a week. If I had seen it, I'd have put my note in a response. "On a list of gunshops to avoid" sounds like the us...

Hatfield's Gunsmith (Manassas)
I just picked up the last five of many guns Sam Hatfield has fixed, fine-tuned, or overhauled for me over the past 18 or so months. (One of those guns was a defective new fairly expensive 1911 that I chose to take to them rather than return to the same factory that screwed it up-and asked them to re...

Re: Sig Sauer P226 Blackwater Tactical
I picked up one of the last-generation BW P226-9's. VERY nice shooter, particularly after I had Sig replace the SRT with a standard trigger @ about 4lbs. My big hands and the short reset didn't work well together. I like it A LOT and picked up a bunch of 20-rd MecGar mags but am undecided whether to...

Re: Dawsons Guns, Woodbridge Virginia
Last fall, I ordered a Browning Hi-Power .40 S&W from them. Within hours, they called to say that the supplier has been out for a long time and didn't know when one would be in. Rather than try to steer me to a CZ-75 (a "near Hi-Power" for some) or keep my hanging with an open order, t...

Re: NOVA Armament - Herndon, VA - Review
Visited NOVA Arms yesterday morning mainly to check the place out. Looked (and was tempted) but didn't buy (this time). I came away thinking that the staff was exceptionally customer-friendly...the kind of experience that made me glad I went out of my way to visit them.
