Re: VPC still uneffectively trying to debate
It's been quite a long time since I was a member of the Florida State champion debating team, just a week or so before London went bonkers on VE Day. In the days the National Forensic League required that data used in debates have a factual basis. Given that, it will be a cold day in Hades before th...

Re: Response to someone with a knife
Every time someone has attacked me with a knife (7 or 8 times because because I had a couple of brothers who were just as volatile as I) I simply did my Lone Ranger act and shot the knife out of the attacker's hand. When the attacker happens to be a stranger rather than a beloved relative, I follow ...

Re: Five myths about gun control - The Washington Post
Reading this led me to decide that I ought to cancel my subscription to the "Post." So I did a little checking and fpound out I'd already done that when they said something bad about Bush 43,

Kaos Dad, Maybe I should go back and take another look, but I'm too lazy. Did the calculations you presented on that first post include an allocation of capital equipment costs?

Re: The Greene Turtle
Who really, really cares? They don't want my money, I won't give it to them. I just Googled Leesburg restaurants and found that there are several others from which to choose. I think I could win a sure bet that "Green Turtle" is an intentionally deceptive name. The last time I had a green ...

"I guess the qualifier in that is 'official', because nearly every freakin' govt form I have to fill out these days asks me if I'm white, black, yellow, etc...." You're certainly correct in that, LFS. I often just leave that blank because they don't have a space for half Jew/half Southern ...

Re: Finally, My QD Muzzle Brakes!
Hearing protection! What an interesting concept. Has that been around very long? Do they use it in the Army? Do you think if I go to a VA Hospital I can get my hearing back? Since 1948 when I was sent out to Camp Drake (1st Ca.) outside Tokyo to hone my "skill" preparatory to being sent to...

Re: Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
Zephyr, This has puzzled me a bit since I saw it first, probably yesterday: "The fact that he is black (which technically he is not) has been played up by the media and certain black leaders." I don't take issue with it because if "black" and "white" are valid racial di...

Re: Hurricane Season 2010
Grew up in Miami beginning in 1928 Missed the biggie in 1926 (we hadn't learned about names in those days, so it's called the 1926 hurricane; clever, what?). That's the one that really blew the joint apart and spelled "finis" to the land and business boom until after the Depression. Some s...

Re: Collapse of Society 4x4
Ever since Clinton made us bug out of there instead of dismantling the joint, I've been partial to the Somalian "technical." That'll be a 4x4 lightweight Toyota pickup with extra fuel tanks and a .50MG swivel-mounted in the bed.

Re: Tell me about Hi-Point Arms!
Diomed, Reasons for a pistol calber include: Almost 100% disabled; have been given not more than 6 more months; no unaided mobility; can lift the carbine, which no longer applies with the M1; can hold it steadier than I can any handgun; will have to wait until they're so close to me that the little ...

Re: Brought her home!
Just a quickie. I do love a rifle that LOOKS like a rifle and not like some Ming the Merciless killer out of Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon or some other fantasy. I've also heard that when a BG is shot with that sucker he stays shot; just as with my dearly beloved M1 Garand.

Re: Violence Is Nothing New To The Blue Ridge Parkway
Well, if we think back there was a bluebelly general called Phil Sheridan who set the precedent for all that stuff. Did the first half of a lot of urban renewal also. One of Mr. Lincoln's Merry Emancipators.

Re: Tell me about Hi-Point Arms!
I've been tracking users' comments on Hi-Point (guns amd company) for more than 2 years. I became interested in getting a cheap carbine. There's tons of entries in the 'net, and without having counted I can say with confidence that the positives far outweigh the negative. All sorts of different reas...

Re: Tactical (Home Defense) Shotgun Selection
Love those shotguns! Sort of interesting event a couple of nights ago not far from my house in Vienna (Fairfax County). Not very late I heard a flurry of gunshots. Several at one amplitude and then some number at a lower or higher db level. I took them to be handguns of different calibers. There wer...

Gosh, folks, I don't know when I've ever been in lockstep with any organization to which I belong. That includes my family. I joined the NRA because they pretty much reflect my views with respect to The Great Second and the higher is the membership count, the greater is their clout. Make it easy on ...

Re: Mosque approved to be built 2 blocks from Ground Zero
Well, after reviewing events--private state, and Federal--of the recent few weeks or months (this was at great length and detail just about all last night), I concluded that today was a good time and not too soon to lay out my serious conclusions and (I expect) hopes. This isn't confiding because th...

Re: why do you carry a gun man nothing happens here
I'm asking here, not presenting it as fact. I don't think I've ever bought a long gun under the instant-check regime, but my impression is that they use it for all store-bought guns. I also think that arrest and criminal records of kids under some age--maybe 16 or 18--aresealed and wouldn't be acces...
