Thanks for the reply! Good advice. I've got a guy coming this weekend to deal with the concrete chunks.

Backstop Safety
Esteemed fellow firearm owners... I'm in the process of setting up a range on my property. I recently had 5 dumptrucks worth of dirt (~100 yards) delivered to function as a backstop. The property is flat and beyond the backstop is woods. Turns out the fill dirt I received contains more than a couple...

Arrow Vanes
I just bought another set of arrows for the upcoming season. I ended up buying the standard carbon cheapies with 4" vanes. Most of the arrows with 2" vanes were more expensive. Is accuracy really that much better with 2" vanes? Enough so to justify the additional cost?

Re: Free NRA memberships
I'm not sure I understand the logic behind a free membership from the NRA's perspective. The reason we all joined was to fund the fight for our rights, no? What real benefit do they get from it?

Re: phelps wma
Word of advice, like jdonovan said - head deep. If Phelps is the only place you plan on hunting, take a chain lock and leave your treestand. I've seen plenty locked up and never heard of any getting messed with. I usually leave mine. In fact, last year I saw a deer cart chained up as well.

Re: phelps wma
Even though its heavily utilized, I love it. The deer density is outstanding for public land. There are so many good spots... you really can't go wrong. I went in yesterday to take my little guy squirrel hunting and found lots of fresh sign. If I were you, I'd go in sometime this week with a GPS and...

Re: Bow Hunting in Prince William County?
Is there national forest in PW? I can't think of any off the top of my head. Most is State forest- and hunting is prohibited as far as I'm aware.

Re: A case for shoot, shovel, shut-up (bear killed not man)
People are just nuts... my buddy found a wounded falcon during a jog through the woods the other day. He called animal control to report it and offered to put it out of its misery. they immediately became hostile and threatened to have him jailed for harming a protected bird of prey, or some such no...

Wow... never thought there would be a linux thread on a forum like this! Agree - linux has come a long way... maybe not so much on the desktop front, but its hiding in a lot of places that people don't realize.

Re: Speakin of WMA's
I just moved to NoVA in '07. I immediately started looking for hunting spots. I didn't have any luck finding private land, so I decided to try out the WMAs. I probably spent 15 days hunting Phelps and Thompson last season. Only been out 3 or 4 times this year due to the birth of our second child. Bu...

OC on State Public Hunting Land
I've been reading through the VA Hunting Regs trying to determine if OC is permitted on Wildlife Management Areas. Its a bit confusing. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/hunting/regulations/publiclands.asp Regulations Specific to National Forest and Game Department Lands It shall be unlawful to have in p...

Carrying Advice?
I grew up in the backwoods of PA. Everyone in my family hunted. Heck, everyone in the state hunts, so I became quite comfortable around rifles and shotguns. I wasn't introduced to handguns until a few years ago. I recently picked up my concealed permit and an SP101. I have yet to actually conceal in...

Re: Hi Point Firearms
First handgun I ever purchased- HiPoint .380 ACP. Out of the box, jammed first shot. Cleared the action, jammed again. Several subsequent attempts to fire the pistol proved useless. I sent the firearm back to be examined and fixed. It was returned several weeks later. They included an extra clip &qu...
