Probably cheapest to rebarrel your AR rather than modify the existing one. Just make sure you have the right tools, i.e. armorer's wrench and torque wrench.

It looks like this is one of those things that fall under "at the officer's discretion" kind of thing. Unless you have a fun disguised as something else, like a deck of cards etc. you shouldn't have to worry
